Some say he killed all the Time Lords, and he has no home.

Others say he knows just two facts about time, and both are wibbly wobbly.

All we know is... he's NOT the Stig , but he is the Stig's Gallifreyean cousin.

That'll be in the fall, but of course the end wasn't given out in the preview......and I haven't found a leaked version of the full ep yet :(

Yeah, I mean, they've got to set up the 50th (8th?) Anniversary Special, and a final scene with Tennant would do the job.

My theory is that they won't reveal his name because the only name cool enough to be the Doctor's is already taken...by a baby.

Could be...but I was reading some other spoilers that could set it up in a totally different way too.

We'll see.

when ever the late night discussion of "what would you name your child?" ever popped up with my snogging companions, I would often say that I would give them the first name of "Doctor", and the second name would be the casual day to day name that would be used...

I don't have any kids... but that is not the reason why..  and the reason why is not for lack of trying or opportunity..

no... no... I blame Arby's

but that, is a whole different story for a different thread entirely.

This season half has been terrible. Just downright awful. But this episode. This one right here. It redeems the whole thing. If you're an American with a TiVo, I've got one thing to say to you.

MAKE SURE IT WORKS.

I'm going to watch it again on the Beeb, now. I'll be checking in later. Anybody who bad mouths it is getting a sock in the mouth. I'll find you. You know I will.

I knew it was going to be good the moment I saw William Hartnell.

Also, regarding the ending of the episode, he's the actual #9, right?  Which makes Matt Smith #12.

That's the story. Of course, knowing Doctor Who, they can just negate the whole thing. Heck, negate a couple more instances and you can get another 50 years out of the show.

Eccleston always struck me as kind of a pain in the ass and someone who really didn't appreciate the role he had been given. While I enjoyed his Doctor I won't really miss him in the Anniversary special.  I will, however, miss the older Doctors who are still alive and who could have been invited.

I figure that John Hurt is a good bridge between #8 and the Doctor played by  Eccleston.  They will figure out some way to get around the whole 12 regeneration limit thing by the time Matt Smith is ready to move on.  Which can't come soon enough as far as I'm concerned.  I enjoyed his Doctor with Amy & Rory but not so much with Clara.

Also, is anyone else sick of the companion/Doctor romantic/sexual tension?  It really shouldn't be that way.  Hopefully the next Doctor will be a bit older and this will no longer be a factor

I also really like this episode. All the flashbacks to the previous doctors put a smile on my face. I actually thought for a minute that this was going to be the end of Clara. That would have been quite interesting. But I guess she'll be around for awhile.

Seeing as he's wearing the leather jacket, that's what I'm thinking. Either that or a very old 8, which I doubt, since we've seen the 8th shown up during the reels of past Doctors, which, if he was supposed to be unworthy of the name of Doctor, wouldn't have shown up. I'm placing my bets on being the real 9th Doctor.

I guess the importance is that 11th is the 12 incarnation, but is still the 11th Doctor in his mind due to him believing that the Hurt Doctor is not worthy of the name. That still makes him the 12th incarnation, which means that the next Doctor would be the last. Of course, they'll find a way around it.

That last 30 seconds was the biggest WAAAAAAAA in sci-fi since Picard got Borgified, or the Alien burst out of John Hurt's stomach.

Could have been a two parter with more of that. Digitally insert Clara into a bunch of scenes and make an episode out of it -- like back to the future 2 or the ds9 tribble episode.

These 45 minute episodes are problems.

Mart Laar's beard shaver: I'm actually shocked that the ending was kept a secret. Bravo, BBC, and Who fans in the know that didn't leak it.

It was a nice surprise for sure, though I guess seeing those shots of John Hurt wearing 9's leather jacket and him saying in a recent interview that he'll be playing an "aspect" of the Doctor kinda dulled the surprise for me. I think the part that surprised me the most was about what the Name actually meant. His real name is unimportant, the only reason it was kept secret was that it could be used to open his tomb and interfere with his timeline and discover his greatest shame, his John Hurt incarnation.

2013-05-18 08:14:58 PM
ANd Hurt being 9 comes from The Sun, so take it as you will
THey already missed the mark about him being a regeneration he forgot about, since 11 clearly knew who he was.

There are quite a few ways around it that are both plausible and incredibly easy.
