Coming three or four decades behind the rest of society integrating women, it is worthy of attention.

I wonder if that gay dude will get an exhibit in the NBA hall of fame?

She got a trophy for pole position? What kind of joke sport is this?

Well, it's not cricket.

I guess they figured it would take too long before they could open a "Danicas first Sprint Cup win" addition to the museum.

Not news: Male Farkers pay female athletes attention based on their looks. Fark: Male Farkers complain that female athletes receive attention based on their looks. Ironic tag: Explodes.

Well it is a hall of fame and she is certainly famous due to nascars hype and merchandising machine rather than for accomplishments. That said, her exhibit will be small and will have a few items like the pole trophy (which was a first) . Maybe she'll win some races and they can expand the thing.

mikaloyd: I wonder if that gay dude will get an exhibit in the NBA hall of fame?

Yes, Jason Collins should.  Just like Marion Motley had an exhibit in the Pro Football Hall of Fame before he was inducted.  Same for Jackie Robinson.

Folks, take two seconds to think - a sports Hall of Fame isn't just the collection of plaques/busts of people that have been inducted.  They're museums whose mission is to tell the history of the sport.  You can't tell that history without including people who aren't inducted.  That would be like visiting Mount Vernon and seeing no exhibits about the people that worked on the plantation, paid workers or slaves, besides George himself.

LITERALLY, EXHIBIT A:

Surely you don't think Danica is the first female NASCAR driver.

It's a hall of Fame.  Most people know who Danica Patrick is, hence she is famous.  Most people don't know who Cale Yarbourough  is, hence he is not famous.

Danica Patrick couldn't carry Anna Kournikova's panties.

She's the first series regular in 50 plus years, so it's kind of a big farking deal.

The entertainment value for me is really the whaarrgarbl.

"NASCAR Hall of Fame adds Danica Patrick exhibit."

A.K.A. a Victoria Secret's store. I just looked up her stats, and over 186 races between NASCAR and Indy racing, at the age of 31 she's only had one freaking win!!! Hardly worthy of an exhibit. I can't wait for a woman race driver who's as successful at the top male drivers, but Danica is not it.

No Danica Patrick Hall of Fame exhibit is complete without this:

Well, she's a woman in a man dominated sport. It's kind of a big deal -- even if she's never won a race.

MFAWG is technically correct - if you are looking only at full time Cup drivers, which is a noteworthy step.

Edmo's point was stupid.

2013-05-18 12:13:28 PM
But Danica has the 6th best yearly points total.
For women.
Over the past 65 years.

So we get two Danica hate threads , but the Indy 500 pole day thread goes red.

This.
And

It's a sport and they are athletes. Put Danica in an all women's racing league to see how competitive can be at the end of the day.

2013-05-18 12:33:37 PM
As long as backing and parallel parking aren't part of the competition, she still has a chance. Just kidding. Been a NASCAR fan for 30 years, I'm pulling for Patrick to win, and also going to the NASCAR HoF in August.

It's funny the way people are addicted to NASCAR non-racing.

Yes, threadjack. Is there a feed of qualifying?

And, on topic... Those saying they're waiting for a woman to be successful in racing need to take a look at drag racing. And don't make a drag queen joke out of it, pervs.

I'll threadjack. Dang rain.

also, on Danica, she did have a good 2009, and if she didn't decide to follow the money machine and concentrate at 2 series at once in 2010 on, i do think she would have had more than 1 win in Indycars.

To the NASCAR hall of fame? Sure, why not?

I'm thinking of doing the memorial day racing marathon, but I think Mrs Crotchgrabber would kill me if I set the alarm for that early on a Sunday.

I'm usually wasted by the time the 600 starts. The couch spins faster than the cars.

2013-05-18 12:57:14 PM
Cars are expected to come out... 1:30-1:45ish. Will Buxton is interviewing drivers.

2013-05-18 01:00:46 PM
BTW - Kat Legge is confirmed for Sam Schmidt:

@curtcavin Raining. Butkatherinelegge has been confirmed to the No. 81 car. Yep, Schmidt's car is changing from its No. 99.

Heard that Legge and Allmendinger miiiight be Stenica-ing it in the Indy 500 paddock.

Wallmenlegger?

Dixon's going out.

Jensaarai: Dixon's going out.

226.1. May be a mid pack speed. May be weird seeing the good Honda runners around 18th-24th.

Excited to see what Viso, Munoz, and other Chevies will do.

2013-05-18 01:37:14 PM
I happened to be walking out of the infield at Indy at the moment they first called Danica leading the 500.

One hundred thousand women screamed at once.  It was the oddest thing I'd ever heard.

What the hell, give her an exhibit.  Just make sure it includes the Hostess grocery store cutouts that were everywhere that year.

2013-05-18 01:41:21 PM
Rahal is losing a TON of speed. That whole team has been slow all month.

2013-05-18 01:44:17 PM
Hot damn, Allmendinger.

2013-05-18 01:48:11 PM
227.701 for Dinger. 1.5mph+ faster than the fastest Hondas. (and Dixon and Sato have been close to the top of that brigade)

2013-05-18 01:58:44 PM
Mayor to the top? Nice.

2013-05-18 01:59:31 PM
nevermind. Indycar site is wonky.

It's sweet of them giving "special" drivers awards just for finishing.

He had the fastest single lap, but lost waaay too much speed over the run.

The 27 fell off, what happened AA? The 5 of Viso and the 26 of Munoz should be good though.

41 of Daly just blew up.

2013-05-18 02:13:10 PM
Seb's car looks awesome.

5 broken headers for Honda this year:

St. Pete
Vautier
Pagenaud
Beatriz

Barber:
Franchitti

Indy Q's:
Daly

Very 2006 McLaren-esque.

19 of Wilson with a 226.8 first lap

2013-05-18 02:27:14 PM
