While I tend to agree, if someone wanted to throw money at me to puke up a few words about my (or better yet, someone else's) life, I'd have to at least consider it.

Keep medicating kids who are abnormal!

Stop sending kids to gifted schools! What matters is that they get along with their peers! And every child needs normal peers!

These parents should be punished for not listening to psychologists. This child is suffering from terrible antisocial behaviour.

I am really uncomfortable with a person who says a teenager's amth equations are "Scary." Where did they find that woman for the interview? Yeesh.

Same thing happened to me.  They figured I had problems and just dumped me in the remedial  class for years.  Eight grade teacher noticed something was wrong when a kid with a fourth grade reading level was writing reports on the Hobbit.Got tested, high reading level, high IQ now 30 years later turns out the original diagnosis was correct.

As someone who used to test IQ for a living, I call bullshiat on this IQ of 180+. There is no meaningful IQ greater than 4SD above the mean (160).

Horrible article. Only a MOTHER'S LOVE could save him from those cold, detached experts trying to "fix him". Well, medicating kids is done way too often, but many kids actually benefit from it. And most kids with problems DO need a lifetime of help and therapy to cope with living in a society. This article just leads to kids with problems being heroically mothered by people who will likely fail miserably doing it themselves and do vastly more harm than good. The mother did a great job, and her kid had a specific set of circumstances that all worked together to affect this outcome. Most mothers are incapable of doing this. Most children with Aspergers aren't geniuses. This article pisses me off the more I read it.

From TEDxTeen: At age nine, while playing with shapes, Jacob built a series of mathematical models that expanded Einstein's field of relativity. A professor at Princeton reviewed his work and confirmed that it was groundbreaking and could someday result in a Nobel Prize. At age 10, Jacob was formally accepted to the University as a full-time college student and went straight into a paid research position in the field of condensed matter physics. For his original work in this field, Jacob set a record, becoming the world's youngest astrophysics researcher. His paper was subsequently accepted for publication by Physical Review A, a scientific journal shared on sites such as NASA, the Smithsonian, and Harvard's webpage. Jacob's work aims to help improve the way light travels in technology.

Jacob is also CEO and founder of Wheel LLC, a business he started in his mom's garage, and is in the process of writing a book to help end "math phobia" in his generation.

Jacob's favorite pastime is playing basketball with the kids at his charity, Jacob's Place. It is a place where kids with autism are inspired every day to be their true authentic selves...just like Jacob.

TL;DR: at age 9, understood Relatively well enough to extend it in new ways (as attested by a Princeton professor). Taught calculus to college undergrads. At age 10, became a paid researcher in condensed matter physics. Published in prestigious peer-reviewed physics journal. Started a business. Writing a book. Leads a charity to help other autistic kids.

So other than that, yeah, he's just like the average Farker. Meh.

As if this wasn't unlikely enough to begin with, now we're supposed to believe that teenage Midwestern girls speak British?

Bennie's facetious post is exactly on point. The child was profoundly unhappy when they tried to make him more "normal". They let him be himself and he thrives. There's a lesson here for parents of neurotypical children as well.

He'll grow out of it.  Like that conservative messiah kid from CPAC a few years ago who went through puberty and realized how idiotic conservatism is.  You can forgive naive, shortsighted ideology at 14.  Even if you're smart, you've accumulated no wisdom.  It's when you hang onto that same ideology at 34 that your intelligence comes into question.

having a high iq doesn't mean anything anyway.  even if you have a high iq, if you don't have any motivation or ambition to use it, then you'll wind up working at mcdonalds like a regular schmuck.  i've been tested a few times and my iq falls around 140, but i lack both social skills and ambition to challenge myself, so i work in a factory and i spend most of my spare time playing video games or watching porn.
