Strange, when I think of a red NHL team, the "Red Wings" spring to mind.  Or the home reds of the Canadiens.

2013-05-17 08:58:26 PM
The New York Yankees are the most successful team in pro sports, yet the only red associated with them is the script on their "top hat" logo, which is not found on either of their uniforms.

I think subby was mocking the idea that color is determinative of success in sports. You know, by naming a really crappy team in each sport that wears red?

\Not subby.

As A Red Sox fan, wearing red didn't prevent them from going 86 years without a World Series.

There was a study a few years ago that determined that uniform color can influence a referee's decision making (link to New Scientist, can't get in to Psych Science anymore).

Red Wings, most winning Detroit team.
Pistons have some red, have some success.
Tigers have orange, can come close at times.
Lions have no red, nothing else needs to be said.

I can see where they are going with this.

Toxicphreke: Real Madrid

I would argue that Liga titles are congruous to pennants, in which case the Yankees' 40 trumps Real Madrid's 32.

Athletes who wear red are more likely to be winners.

When I first heard this, it came with the caveat that the two sides needed to be relatively equal in talent.

Since La Liga has only been in existence since 1929 vs MLB since 1869 as well as the relegation rules and the number of teams in La Liga...I would say your argument is invalid.

Toxicphreke: Since La Liga has only been in existence since 1929 vs MLB since 1869

Yankees were founded in 1901 (1913 -as- the Yankees), so that's a reasonably similar timeframe

as well as the relegation rules

inconsequential

and the number of teams in La Liga...

10-22 teams (20 currently) over the course of La Liga's history vs the 8-15 (15 currently) of the American League. Again, comparable.

I would say your argument is invalid.

I would disagree.

2013-05-18 12:47:43 AM
And if you factor in the 18 Copa del Rey, 9 Supercopa de Espana, 9 EUFA Champions League, 2 UEFA Cups, 3 International Cups....I would say that easily qualifies them as the winningest team in sports. And I'm not even a Real Madrid fan....I bleed Manchester United Red!

2013-05-18 12:51:21 AM
Besides...the bulk of the Yankees championships came when there was a 16 team total MLB (8 American, 8 National) Are you going to discount those?

Two points in game vs USA, which isn't bad considering he'd just flown overseas the prior day, team game.

Caps just don't have good depth right now, unfortunately.

Red is a popular color throughout sports, looking at the last 2 decades, the Red Wings and Devils have had a healthy representation in the cup finals, the Wings dominating the league for the better part of two decades.Chicago of course won a couple years back and have a good shot at making the finals again.Of course, some of the teams which haven't had  so much success such as the Flames, Caps, Panthers and Sens haven't done so well in red. Kings, Pens, Bruins all winning the Cup in recent memory without red.
