gglibertine: Years ago, one of my cats tore through a screen and was missing for three days. I spent the whole three days walking the neighborhood calling him, putting up signs, crawling under bushes to look for him, checking the pound... nothing. Then I got a 3 a.m. call from my neighbors down on the ground floor. "We think we've got your cat. PLEASE COME GET HIM NOW!"See, Iceberg Slim had never seen stairs (or been outside) in his life, and was unclear on the concept of multi-story dwellings. So he found the right apartment to come home to, only on the wrong floor. Turns out the people down there had a little dog-door insert for their sliding glass door, so Iceberg slipped right in -- and was immediately cornered in the bathroom by their terrier. As soon as I appeared in the bathroom doorway, he let out a piteous wail and literally *leaped* into my arms -- right over the dog. (He also pissed all over me, but, well, he'd also never met a dog before.) He didn't usually like to be picked up, but he wouldn't let me put him down for an hour. He just clung to me purring and nuzzling.I'm pretty sure that was gratitude./I had to finally put him to sleep a month and a half before his 20th birthday. Saddest day of my life. No one has EVER loved me the way that cat did.

Lollipop165: I have a rescue. He USED to be super grateful for everything we gave him and would shower us with affection. Now he's super spoiled and demanding. And he steals my elderly dog's bones even after I give him one of his own. He has grown up to be such an a**hole.
