Of course she would be an early adopter, they'll let her not only stalk gay rights rallies, she'll be able to film the ne'er do wells.  I'm sure her husband will be happy to help her review the footage.

Indeed.   The more I read about her history of being a foster parent for emotionally troubled teens-but emotionally troubled teen GIRLS exclusively, more than a dozen or so in all, I'm left with two ugly , ugly nagging suspicions:  either those girls were her effort at a home-brew "gay conversion therapy" for her husband, or there is a reason she doesn't mind staying married to such an obviously gay man

I've been debating installing a dash cam in my car just to capture some of the crazy shiat I see (what feels like daily) on my way to and from work... today I saw a cop turn his lights on, run a red light real quick that I stopped on yellow arrow at (cause I saw the cop and they love to use any excuse to fark with you it feels like) and turn onto the road I had to wait to get on, immediately turn them off and keep driving like normal... i hate that.

And I was thinking, man, that'd be a great time for that dash cam... hey wait, I wish I had google glasses right now...

/I just hope they have an attachment for it to use as sunglasses or something.

One thing that occurred to me is that if you have a dashboard mount for your smartphone (e.g. to use it as a GPS navigator), you might be able to use that same smartphone as a dashcam as long as the mount doesn't block the rear-facing camera.  And if I had to guess, I'd expect that most modern smartphones have the processing power to record video and provide GPS navigation simultaneously, although you'd run down the battery very quickly if you didn't have it hooked up to an in-car charger while driving.

I've never tried it since my commute is rarely so exciting, but now I'm kind of curious to see if my Droid 4 could handle that...

That's an idea, I don't have a mount for it though, but I think one of the big problems is I only have a 16gb iphone so that would suck up a lot of space fast.

The old video is constantly being written over, unless the accelerometer is triggered or a manual record is started, so you really don't need much space.  My dash cam has an 8 GB card and that's plenty, I'm sure you could get by with less.

Dumb-shiat question here. Probably due to my age.

Why is there such a fuss over Google Glass when, over the past couple of decades, I've seen a plethora of college kids and others experimenting with creating assorted forms of 'heads up' display headwear?

I recall some young men walking around with basically small LED screens taped to glasses, wires running down the frames to packs on their belts, some worked them into goggles and it seemed that everyone considered this the future.

So, Google comes up with something apparently functional -- and everyone makes fun of it.

Why?

Now, remember, you're talking to a guy who doesn't know if a tablet has a hard drive and if so, why doesn't it overheat like those in laptops.

It took me awhile to figure out what the 'Cloud' is. Technology is advancing faster than my ability to understand all of it.

After all, the first phone I used had a dial, you rented but couldn't buy it and the headset was connected to the base by a thick, coiled wire. It was also nearly indestructible. That same phone was often connected to a party line, meaning about half a dozen folks were on the same number. You had to listen for a certain number of rings to know the call was for you.

/I know, I know, the onion on my belt is old too.

We made fun of the people with head mounted displays forever.

It's basically a really easy way of telling who is actually thinking about technology, and who wants silly toys they saw in sci fi movies.

I do that. I have an HTC One X with window sucker holder thingy (the technical term), and it has a nice circle cut out for the camera, so it can film everything off ahead. However I've noticed that the rule is that whenever I remember to set it up to record I get stuck in traffic and nothing happens, but when I don't set it up everyone drives like they're on LSD.

Actually I'm going on a fairly long drive today and I am planning on setting it up, except to record as a timelapse, just to see what that'd look like. I don't do it as any real safety or insurance thing, just to satisfy my boredom and curiosity about all things.
