They are looking to pull back on features such as chat and instant messaging in favor of their own more secure, proprietary services.

A Bloomberg Terminal cost $20,000 a year per terminal of course business would like to cut back that's 6.3 Billion that they are spending, per year.
 
also Mayor Bloomberg has been divested from Bloomberg LP during his tenure.

So let me get this right.  Bloomberg provides a "proprietary" terminal to be used with their service.  And users of this service are surprised to learn that the service providers can't track who logs in and what they research?  Stop the presses.  These guys are going to be gobsmacked when they find out that Google can track your searches, grep the content of your email... etc.

$20,000 a year? Those terminals operate like you're using DOS. It's all command line. It's butt ugly to look at onscreen. And there are so many commands that Bloomberg offers a bunch of training courses.

I don't see what could go wrong.

I always wondered how business news worked. Now we know.
