The bear spent several hours calmly resting on a branch about 20 feet off the ground until he was tranquilized just after 10 a.m. He slowly grew drowsy and then slipped off the branch.

Reminds me of a not-cool story from my time as a biologist for the NPS many moons ago. One day we tranq'd a problem bear about 20 feet up a tree just like in tfa. Only when he fell off the branch he landed on his head and broke his neck...oops!

In north central florida. I think the highest natural one is like 300 or so ft up. We also have landfills that are pretty high as well.

The Florida tag makes me skeptical about this headline.

What hills?

The highest point in Florida is about 119 feet or something.

The lowest State highest point in the United States is in Delaware and is also a song by the Bare Naked Ladies. The average Bare Naked Lady is higher (above sea level) than the average point of land in Florida or Delaware.

One of my most memorable  Kids in the Hall sketch involves a bear attack. One of the characters played by Kevin MacDonald, naively goes to a gay bar and is later attacked by a "bear". The bear is shown leaping from, IIRC, a headboard or possibly a wall unit. Once seen, such a sketch can not be unseen.

It's a pun you know. A pernicious paranomasia, as I call them.

That bear falling out of a tree is the most Photoshopped looking bear on the web. It looks like a dancing bear that has been poorly shopped into the photo.

One of the web's little ironies.

Skeptics believe that the Florida Skunk Ape may be a misidentified black bear like many of the other alleged Big Feet in North America.

I certainly find it suspicious that a hominid would live in Florida but being of near-human intelligence, they might seek out their own kind. But that doesn't explain what a hominid would be doing on the East Coast of Florida.

And that's enough Florida jokes for now.

I had to check Wikipedia to be sure Tampa is on the West Coast of Florida. Otherwise somebody would make a joke about my post before I did.

A sigh of relief. Tampa is on the Red Neck Riviera.

It also has the stupidest looking flag I have ever seen. It took a while to get used to the flag of Newfoundland and Labrador, but slowly I got used to it and now think it might even pass as daringly modern, but look at this crap:

upload.wikimedia.org

Does that spell out Tampa in the marine language of flags or something?

And they spelled "mascot" wrong. And it's a steam-sail ship. How half-assed can you get without being too dumb to breed?

Thanks, Derpy. I knew I wasn't remembering it very clearly. So much for "most memorable". I have all five seasons on DVD but haven't watched any of them for years. One is still shrink-wrapped. You tend to rely on memory much longer than you should.

But even the pile of DVDs next to my computer is so big that it would take me weeks to watch them all, so I guess the KITH, like many of the great things in life, will continue to be pushed aside by crap just because.

It really should be in my rotation of things I watch over and over again but even that is more entertainment than anybody sensible really needs.

I can assure you that there are plenty of hominids living in Florida.  I was nearly run off the road by an Australopithecine driving a Ford truck yesterday.

Tampa has a redneck riviera on the other side of the gandy bridge. It is a strip of beach on hillsborough bay. It comes complete with lifted trucks , natural light, girls with muffin tops wearing daisy dukes and rebel flags. It also has a great view of some sort od power plant.

If you're talking about the power plant on the Pinellas side it was demolished back in February, but everyone in FL calls Pensecola the redneck riviera. You could call the access off of Courtney Campbell or the southern access to Sand Key up in Clearwater redneck riviera if the criteria is lifted trucks , natural light, girls with muffin tops wearing daisy dukes and rebel flags.
It's FL dude, you don't have to look hard to find all those things together.

You ever see two Rangers giving a bear CPR? I shiat you not. We didn't know whether to cry or laugh...and suspect we did a little of both. In the end we dragged him a quarter mile off into the bush to let the scavengers have him.
