He delivered pizza for Papa John's in Brooklyn - but cops said he made his real dough selling coke on the side.

Hey.  When you've contracted with a company to sell their product, you best not be selling stuff from the competitor or you're going to jail.

Would've been better off selling weed; then there would've been a good reason for the pizza.

Considering how many pizza joints to this day in the northeast are not-so-subtle crime syndicate fronts, a dude slinging coke on the side is nothing.

I thought selling on the side was the reason college kids and adults delivered pizza in the first place.

do you also tip for the coke? is he the coke dealer or just driver? does he get paid a few dollars by a dealer and depends on coke tips?

Not surprising. Having worked delivery for Papa John's on more than one occasion, I can honestly say if you weren't selling, you were buying. I've often wondered if all pizza joints are like this.

marleymaniac: You know, because once or twice wasn't enough.

There was a prostitution bust a few years ago somewhere north of Seattle involving some massage parlors where the police "needed" something like 50 visits in order to make the arrests.

Because, clearly, after the 30th happy ending from an underage Chinese girl, you still don't quite have enough to convict anyone.

Pizza delivery guy selling drugs?

THIS is news!

CSB.  I know a certain slacker, who could have had college paid for him, and he could be starting a career now, but he decided that things like learning and work were too much...work...anyway, the only job he held down in the first two years after high school was working part-time, for money under the table, for a Chinese joint that made deliveries.  I was pretty sure, based on his past arrest record, and his very close brush with a long prison term, and his unwillingness to describe what he did other than, "You know, just stuff, whatever they need" that there were illegal things going on, and I suspected that it was drugs.  Then the owner of the business suddenly disappeared one day. It came out that he fled the country and went to Hong Kong.  Never heard anything definite, but I'm pretty sure this dumbass slacker, who if arrested would have had pending felonies come back on top of the new ones, and would have spent ten years in prison, was delivering drugs.  Probably making what seemed like a lot of money to him, probably thinking, yeah, this is the life, good cash and I don't even have to work for it.  I can sleep until noon, which is my life goal.  What are the odds I'll get busted?  Just because the local police have arrested me before, and the court has told me, you're now on our list, we're going to nail you again, and there won't be any "second chance" programs when we do.

He was a part of my ongoing adult education:  some people are too stupid to know not to keep sticking their burned finger into the candle flame.  Some people feel a bullet whiz right by their ear, and the best reaction they can do is grin and continue to dance in the line of fire.

Sometimes, you have to write people off as complete losses.

So, WTF are they doing with all of the purchased/confiscated coke?
Dumping it in Minnesota lakes?

Isn't there a slew of waaaaaay better pizza to be found?

Well, yes, but sometimes...ya know what? I'm not even going to get into the whole "Local Joint" vs "National Chain" debate again.

Suffice it to say that while, yes, better pizza can be found in Brooklyn easier than finding STDs at a porn convention, people will still order from a chain.

Sometimes it's because the Chain can offer a lower price, sometimes it's that the local joint, while delicious, is kinda scuzzy inside.

But family members said they knew Rodriguez was delivering more than pizza pies.

"He was taking care of his family," his daughter Selina said. "We know he did wrong, but he's a good man."

Really? So, were you aware that he was selling large quantities of drugs, and did you reap the benefits? If o, why aren't you in a cell next to him?

Wrong drug. Coke makes you not want to eat. Should have been selling weed

2013-05-17 01:43:34 PM
One of the guys who worked at the same pizza joint I did told me that once the door was answered by a drunk, completely naked chick.  Knocked him speechless for a few seconds.  Then he heard a guy behind her say, "Put on some clothes for chrissake."  So she pulled on a sweater.

My most memorable story was delivering to the shady part of town once, and when I went in, there were four young black guys and a great big pile of white powder on a table.  They were, incidentally, as polite as they could be, and they gave me a decent tip.  My average tip from college students over three years was $0.00, but they were very generous with helpful screamed tips like "YOU'RE LATE MOTHERFARKER."

The ad said a two liter bottle of coke came with the pizza.  And dammit, he delivered.

One time, not only did I get stiffed, which I didn't mind, but they were mouthy and rude to me, and obviously had every intention of trying to NOT pay for their pizza. So...the police may or may not have gotten an anonymous call regarding a smell of pot coming from a certain address.

Tsk-tsk.  Such a shame.

You know, I actually DID remember who was a good tipper (lots of repeats) and would deliver to them earlier in my sorties than those who didn't tip.

I had a guy who always ordered online and included the tip when he ordered. His usual order came to $12.65. His tip was always $0.35. His order was always last, no matter what.

His girlfriend would usually tip about a dollar, which, considering certain factors, wasn't bad.

Betcha know what those factors were.

/back when I was a server, there was always a certain group of people who would make my tip whatever the change rounded to the nearest dollar was.  $0.65 on a $50.35 bill was the last straw.

I always feel bad when I order online and put my tip on the order.  Not physically giving the driver money seems wrong.

Meh...so long as it's there, I never minded. And I'm one of the few that DIDN'T mind claiming my tips. I always claimed...well, maybe not 100%, but certainly above 90%.
