WhoGAS: I still don't get why this is such an important topic for "Christians". Nowhere did Jesus ever care about creation and all this BS. He cared about teaching people love, tolerance, understanding, helping the less fortunate (etc) and spreading his teachings. Why can't they spend all the energy on what their "Jesus" told them, commanded, directed them to do instead of focusing on worthless matters that even "Jesus" would hang his head in the most massive face-palm ever?I'm so glad I'm not constrained by fairy tales anymore (I used to preach) and I can actually focus on love, tolerance, understanding, helping the less fortunate, etc. But not as "his" teachings, but as a way for the betterment of humanity itself./Off soapbox.
WhoGAS: soporific: For some, it's fear of losing authority.Lady Indica: It's an important topic for some christians because for fundies the lynchpin is 'everything in the bible is absolutely true' and if it's not, it's all false. Thank you for both your responses. It's good to read more thoughts on the subject from others with whom I don't normally converse.I guess it was a bit different back in my time...that really wasn't an important topic for us. I mean, we thought about it, we asked about it and everyone from different denominations had their opinion of it but we were taught that if it wasn't in the Bible then it probably wasn't that important for God to have us know. That was fairly logical to us and allowed for more freedom.Maybe I'm just getting older and things bother me more. Maybe I just need to accept that there is no difference between the people in my day and the people of this day...just the focus of topics change. Tomorrow (figuratively put), everything bad will be good again and this generation will be sitting where I am wondering how it got so...different.Anyway, thank you both again for responding; they were both good reads and I agree with, especially the ego, what you said.
Tigger: At what point do we at least put genocide on the table for discussion?
Elegy: I love it when a bunch of self-righteous turds dedicated to groupthink get pwned by the Internet.
99sportster: I cannot ever, EVER, remember agreeing with Pat Robertson on ANYTHING. EVER. This is surely a sign of our coming doom.
