"Sheriff's officials said Hensley recently moved to Arizona and was not familiar with the area. He was dressed in black workout shorts and skateboard shoes and didn't have much water with him."

Is it bad that thanks to people like this who perish in the woods because they are not prepared, that it teaches me not to fark around when I'm in the wilderness?

Thanks.  I have a female friend taking six weeks this summer to hike part of it...by herself.

People look at me strange when I pack three times the amount of water/food that I actually need when I go hiking. I also carry a pint of everclear anytime I go out on a hike.

/I got lost once while hiking. It sucked balls.

Nopej, not wrong.  But he didn't perish in the woods (look at street view for any road in the region - pretty typical Arizona).  You're brain told you it was in the woods because he was hiking.  Mine did too at first.

Used to spend a lot of time there in the 80's.  Plenty of ways to get hurt or kilt.  The rock formations look really easy to climb.... then you fall off and die.  Or the heat... or the tiger rattlers.... Protip:  don't take peyote when you're out there.

This this was just another in the many clusterfarks under the Pinal County Sheriff's Office under the tepid leadership of Paul Babeu. (you may know him as the guy who hates brown people, but was outed by his gay Mexican partner).

The wife told the Sheriff's incompetent search and rescue exactly the trail he was hiking.

This Sheriff has dismissed the Superstition Mountain Search and Rescue team from these activities because they didn't endorse him in his first run for Sheriff. (They don't endorse anyone according to their by laws.)

After the Sheriff's SAR team had been out there for four days looking for the guy. The wife went to a couple of guys from the Superstition Mtn. SAR. They found him in two hours.

This is in par with another Sheriff SAR job where the Superstition Mtn. SAR found a hiker 150 yards from the Sheriff's command station after they had been looking for him for two days.

Pro tip: If you ever go hiking in the Superstition Mountains-do not call Paul Babeu and his team of losers.

Good. Dead people shouldn't be hiking.

Poor guy. I spent a lot of time hiking that area in the early eighties, beautiful and dangerous. It only takes a moment of inattention, the smallest omission or mistake and you can be gone...
