Fell In Love With a Chair: They expect her to field questions about the food being served, so that's why she can't eat her prepared lunch? Have these assholes ever met a pre-schooler? Those lil farkers will eat anything not nailed down- they think the litter box is an almond roca dispenser. Christ.
berylman: KeithLM: It has nothing to do with her food being organic though, as much as the headline would like us to believe.Thankya. Not sure why they had a code of separating the teachers from kids during mealtimes but her diet choice had apparently nothing to do with it...but it makes a nice side story for the oblivious.
LesserEvil: I don't see the problem here. She can eat whatever she wants, but if it's not the school's food, she cannot eat it in front of the students. Why is this so hard for people like her?Nobody is discriminating against her for her food choice, and the only reason she is being "singled out" is because she is the only one breaking the rule, much like criminals are "singled out" for, you know, breaking the law.Cripes, lady, go to the break room, eat your "organic raw vegan lunch" and STFU already.Looks like she is required to work during her "break" OSHA says you get 30 mins for lunch, so long as i am not drink beer or cocktails infront of the little snowflakes what i eat is my on business. If i am required to wok then it is not a "break" The organic crowd is mildly annoying - pushing food for the world that is unsustainable at the Earth's current population numbers. The Organic Vegan crowd is slightly more annoying, many wandering into PETA territory with their condescending attitudes about animal treatment.Organic Vegan Raw morans are, well, morans. Some foods have to be cooked. These people are in the far extreme and usually militantly outspoken, blabbing to everybody, every minute of the day, about the "health benefits" of their food choices. She falls into the last category. If she wants to be fired because of that choice, well, it is her choice to be fired.
99.998er: So is that organic food gimmick a younger chick magnet thing? I am going to try it.[www.kitv.com image 400x300]
buckler: KCAA president Christina Cox said O'Connell is allowed to eat homemade lunches during a paid break, or after kids go down for their nap, but the objective of lunch time is to provide a family-style setting where teachers and staff field questions about the food that's being served.Huh?
mamoru: From TFA: When Carissa Lee O'Connell's husband Rick began preparing organic home lunches for his wife four months ago, the goal was to improve her severe nasal allergies."Instantly the allergies went away, the colds disappeared and it's all from just eating raw, natural organic food," Rick O'Connell, 53, told KITV4.Anyone want to bet on this being psychosomatic / placebo effect?
worlddan: The reason this rule exists is because the kids are supposed to ask questions about the food they eat. What is being missed in this story is the fact that the food they eat is tied into the curriculum. For example, when they study Native Americans they serve corn...get it? So the school likely has a food of the day in the same what the Sesame Street had a letter ("This episode brought to you by the letter Q") and that is tied into what is being served to the kids for lunch. So by insisting that she gets to eat something different she is screwing up the curriculum. An example of this type of curriculum is here.
flondrix: Read again. They want the teachers to eat with the kids, eating the same food. Teachers who bring their own food are supposed to scarf it down during a 10 min break rather than flaunt their non-conformity.
mamoru: "Instantly the allergies went away, the colds disappeared and it's all from just eating raw, natural organic food," Rick O'Connell, 53, told KITV4.Anyone want to bet on this being psychosomatic / placebo effect?
Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom: I farking hated it when teachers would eat in front of us in class. We would be sitting there hungry and not allowed to so much as chew gum, and the teachers would sit there sipping on Diet Sprite and eating Chex Mix. Awesome.
