I dunno why they didn't fire Armisen years ago, but Hader and Sudakis will be difficult to replace.

I have not watched SNL in years, the humor just seemed to go south and became annoying and really repetitive for a while? anyone recommend watching it again?

I dunno, Fred as Gov Patterson was pretty funny. He was always a good "utility infielder". Sudakis is funny, but not too hard to replace. Hader is impossible to replace. He's one of a kind.

Funny, with both Armisen and Wiig, they leave when I'm finally coming around on them.  Armisen had his moments this year and last.  Liked the best friend of Gadhafi/Mubarak character, liked the Patterson.  Hell, that tech reviewer was good.

He's always come off kind of dull in SNL, though. Portlandia fits his style a lot better.

That's one of the great things about FARK:  it reminds me that "Saturday Night Live" is still on when it should have been euthenized a very long time ago.

SNL is for 2 demographics: the younger siblings of the comics on the show (kids old enough to up at 11:30 but not old enough to be out doing something) and parents of the comics on the show (folks young enough to be up at 11:30 but too old to be out doing something).

If you're either too young or too old to be staying up that late, or in the middle where you should have something better to do than watch TV on a Saturday night, then SNL has nothing for you.

Fred Armisen deserves to be punched in the face for the rest of his life for making Portlandia.

That being said, hes tolerable on anything not Portlandia.

I can't say I'm an Armisen fan, but I really hope there's one last rock band skit of his this weekend.  The "Band Reunion at the Wedding" skit (with Dave Grohl on drums) was farking epic.

I don't view Fred as one of those magical guys who can make an unfunny script into something funny. He's funny when the script is funny, and he's hilarious when the script relies on him to riff. (That's actually a compliment, even though it was worded poorly.)

Okay.  Just as long as they keep the Muppets on the show.

SNL was much funnier when I was 14. Now it's just unfunny, humorless bile aimed at 14 year olds.

1. Who?

2. SNL is still a thing?

In all seriousness, SNL is one of those generational things. It's awesome for a period of time, but at some point they swap most of the cast and interest wanes.

My folks were Akroyd/Chase/Belushi/Murray/Radner SNL people.
I was Farley/Spade/Sandler/Nealon/Macdonald/Carvey/Myers.

Jimmy Fallon made me want to stab someone. Him looking at the camera in every sketch and almost losing his shiat in every sketch and generally being "that guy" in every sketch got old after a couple of episodes. I'd rather find blood in my stool than watch that crap.

I don't get Portlandia.  It only seems brilliant to self-absorbed liberals and those that write about them.  It's a giant in-joke for those people.  I am not one of those people.

But I'll give him a pass - those people need entertainment, too.  And they aren't outward looking enough to find it in other shows.

All three had their moments. Hader was definitely the best of them. The Puppet Class skit comes to mind.

I think Armisen could have been better with the right material.

Jason Sudekis, I can't think of anything offhand that cracked me up. He always seemed to deliver his lines too fast.

Yeah, Fallon frequently "corpsed", but check out his performances on the "Celebrity Jeopardy" sketches. His impressions were funny and accurate, and he never broke character on those. Sure, he was upstaged by Ferrell and Hammond in their respective roles, but Fallon was brilliant in those sketches.

Pretty much this. I made it through 2 episodes and it made me visibly angry. A big problem might come from that I live in Austin and deal with these farktards all the time and the show isn't so much a comedy than a documentary. One that I see all the time in real life and have no want to subject myself to it than i have too.

Or maybe its just cause its farking awful anyways, I haven't decided yet.

He's a serviceable impersonator, but he was rarely utilized in that way, maybe because other guys like Hammond were so good. He was pretty terrible in most of the regular skits he was in, because he couldn't keep a straight face. He's still terrible at that, really.

I farking love the Californians. It's silly and utterly ridiculous. I also showed a clip of it in my linguistic anthropology class.

Armisen was never really funny - most of his characters either sucked outright or only worked once (Nicholas Fehn).

I dunno. Some of the best moments from The Carol Burnett Show were where Tim cracked Harvey up. (showing my age, here). Comedy is what makes you laugh. Fallon didn't always "lose it", but when he did it was usually because someone else did something unexpected. That's sketch-comedy. Sometimes another person does something unexpected, and you break character. Is that funny or disappointing? Depends on the viewer, I suppose.

Count me as another fan of The Californians. There's no rational reason why something like that should be funny, but I think that's why it *is* funny...
