exick: I'm not sure there's really another English word that you can use in its place. Do we have a generic word for the recipient of a self-inflicted bullet? "Committer of suicide" doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.

decedent, i believe can be used.

RIP, Mr. Trickle.

exick: lockers: The Lincoln County Communications Center received a call apparently from the victim that "there would be a dead body and it would be his."

How is he a victim?

suicider? suicidee?

In all seriousness this kinda sucks, but it sounds like he was of sound mind. Go to a cemetary with a funeral home, let 911 know, then finish it up. He was 71, and he smoked like a chimney for about 60 of those years so I don't doubt that he got some bad news recently and wanted to go on his own terms.

suicide at that age.. safe money is generally on "terminal illness"

Englebert Slaptyback: boyvoyeur

And why call 911 before you do it? Very weird.

Probably so the people who found him would be people who were accustomed to finding and handling damaged bodies, and not some random visitors to the cemetery (who would understandably be freaked out).

Random person would have thought it was a zombie

nekom: But if it's a problem that can be solved, just seems like a waste.

I suppose, but who the hell am I to decide that? If someone decides that they don't have anything else to offer (or simply doesn't want to offer anything more), that's up to them.

crotchgrabber: He was 71, and he smoked like a chimney for about 60 of those years

I'm trying to remember my NASCAR history, wasn't he one of the last drivers who would actually light up in the car while under caution?

2013-05-16 05:05:02 PM

boyvoyeur: I wonder why he did this. Was he sick? Depressed? And why do it in a cemetery? And why call 911 before you do it? Very weird.

My guess is that he wanted to:

a)Go out on his own terms
b)Reduce the impact on everyone around him on a certain level

Probably didn't understand that he would almost certainly end up at the coroner's office prior to being interred.
Apparently made a point of not making a mess in his truck. Calling ahead reduced the chances of his discovery being traumatic/delayed.

Not saying any of this is sane or logical... or that it isn't either.

Yup. I heard a story about when he was looking for a team to hire him he wanted to look professional, so he carried a brief case. The only thing in it was a carton of smokes.

I feel bad for the guy, whatever the problems were.

But I gotta admit, if I was named Dick Trickle, I'd seriously consider racing under a "track name". Crash Wallbanger was always my favorite.

JustGetItRight: Astorix: I wonder if it's going to come out that he was very sick. RIP. Sad for his family.

It wouldn't be completely shocking.  You almost never saw him without a cigarette.

Hate to hear it.  He was a fantastic driver.

And a fair shot

He was a damn fine driver, and he used to race actual stock cars.

TomD9938: Anderson's Pooper: It's a sad story.  But, to be honest, at 71 he lasted about 57 years longer than most of us would have with the same name.

He did it right. This way, there's is no land or property that is made "less valuable" or "spoiled" in any way, and people who have seen this type of thing before are almost certainly the first to find him. I respect him for doing it this way, it's very considerate of others.

How very thoughtful and convenient.

Depression is a weird thing. I battle it and have said "if things get too tough, I'll just drop out, assume a new identity and live on a beach somewhere." I've also been close to calling it quits, but I'm a pussy and don't like pain, so I try to think it will get better.

So far, so good.

At what point can you be sure tomorrow won't be better and you need to go now? Everyone telling you death is a long term solution to a short term problem doesn't work.

Terminal diease I can see. Boss chewing you out or Debbie breaking up with you is weak. But what the hell do I know.
