"Shane Black's Iron Man 3 has become the No. 2 superhero pic of all time at the international box office with $990.5 million in global ticket sales."

Step 1...create a good movie.
Step 2...CHARGE MORE PER TICKET THAN EVER BEFORE
Step 3...rank popularity by income
Step 4...oh yeah, profit.

It was pretty good.. Took my son to see it last weekend. Only complaint I had was they double pumped a pump shotgun. One pump for attention creation and then another pump prior to shooting. Sloppy.

I heard that if RDJ's garbage cans are filled with the bills he finds "too wrinkly".

add in expanded distribution too.  China accounts for $100 million so far.  I'm guessing Jurassic Park didn't get much play in China

They do that in every movie. No matter how many times the shotgun has already been pumped, there has to be "Bad ass line..." shotgun pump.

They should have charged $100 a ticket. They'd have made like six billion dollars, right?

Yeah, when the kid showed up I was like, "Is Spielberg involved with this somehow?" But they managed to not make it be lame. Tony Stark in the middle of nowhere with no booze and not getting the DTs though, that was a tough sell.

Even if you don't it's still good.  Even though it's framed in super heroes and villains, the Iron Man movies have a pretty good story arc about accepting responsibility and growing up.

I don't understand why they gave Tony Stark PTSD from The Avengers if he was just going to magically get over it and never address it again.

If it were up to Shane Black, it would have been addressed more, just like Tony's alcoholism. The suits made him tone it down because it is a Disney movie.

That the kid was not a pussy aided the film's quality.

Avengers is a Disney movie too...   Disney's recent string of success post-Eisner is typified by NOT getting the way of creatives... Pixar and Marvel have been largely left to their own devices.   LucasFilms might be a different story though because its about maximizing the archives, and George is not part of it.

No, I actually read that Shane Black wanted to put Tony's alcoholism more into the film, as it's portrayed in the comic but Disney nixed it.

Box Office Mojo maintains a list that is adjusted for inflation. Here's that top ten:

1) Gone with the Wind
2) Star Wars
3) The Sound of Music
4) E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial
5) Titanic
6) The Ten Commandments
7) Jaws
8) Doctor Zhivago
9) The Exorcist
10) Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Saw it the other night. Good, not great. It had some really corny elements to it and the Pepper Potts scenario near the end was telegraphed about a half hour in advance, but I enjoyed the focus on Stark's demons and Ben Kingsley's performance.

Going to be interesting how the negotiations will go now for the 2nd Avenger's movie.  Last report I saw the studios were trying to be cheap with the actors.

I believe almost all the actors are on multi-film contracts with designated amounts.  I think the only one who isn't anymore is RDJ.

I liked it but, as someone said, the Pepper silliness at the end was unnecessary.  How the fark did she survive that fall?  And then she get's all Kung-Fuey and terminates the antagonist?  I don't think so.

But I liked it.  Downey can deliver the comedy like no other, except for maybe Kingsley.  Holy shiat was I laughing.  And that Ruffalo bit?  Awesome.

Surviving the fall way easy.  She was an extremis enhancile at that point.  The kung-fu, not really explained, but seeing as how extremis was being used in an attempt to make super soldiers with body-reprogramming, I can let that slide a bit.

Not sure if you were paying attention to all the other super human bad guys, but the extremis might have had an effect on durability.

Wrong question. The right question is how was she still clothed after being bathed in fire?
I guess she shops at the same place as Banner

I gotta back you up bro. I totally agree. It's a very good Punisher movie. It got the violence-driven-by-self-loathing aspect down pat, as well as the latent sadism.

And it was cool how he was pale and sickly looking, and his beard was trimmed to make his face into a skull.

The tshirt was missing, that was all.

I thought it was ok.  RDJ fits this role so well that it's still enjoyable.  But I let my expectations get built up for a great villian that never materialized.  My kid really liked it though.

Wasn't a good chunk of the Thomas Jane movie taken almost directly from Garth Ennis's run on the comic?

Yep, smashed two stories together and spent all their money having Travolta chew up the scenery.
