All the teenagers I know like Hollister. When I was a teenager in the 80's we had Hollister, but we called it Ocean Pacific, or Op for short...and on the shorts.

Yeah, I'm sure the stuck-up f*cks that A&F targets give a rat's ass about how some fat peoples' egos were bruised.  Just because the 30-something, former geeks have been freaking out on social media about it doesn't mean that anything will change.

I guess that is a bit judgy of me; I was definitely an outcast because I didn't wear the "it" brands at my wealthy school, but I don't care that A&F is snobby.

What the FARK is going on with his FACE?

Why are his eye brows trying to run away from him to his forehead?
Did they also smell the Abercrombie's perfume that they spray throughout their stores?

Hey, isn't that the dude that won't wear shoes at work?  It was a couple of plastic surgeries ago when I last paid any attention, but I never forget a pompous ass.  No matter how much collagen is pumped between those cheeks.

I could never work for the guy. Last thing I would ever want to do is wade around in his leftover athlete's foot and toe-jam.

Another plastic surgery success story.

I simply do not understand that.  After enough of them, everyone starts looking the same.  They stretch any of their individual features out of existence.

These days I can't tell the difference between Meg Ryan and Melanie Griffith.

Actually, people who would never have shopped there to begin with (either because nothing fit them, or if you're like me, you find that "look" unappealing) are the ones complaining about Mr. Weird Face CEO guy's comments. I could be angry that the guy is a douchenozzle... but I already assumed he (and anyone who creates the kind of clothes frat boys or preppy kids would wear, as well) was a douchnozzle, so there was no loss or gain there.

But that's besides the point:

If young, "cool" kids aren't shopping there, it's 99% likely because a weird-faced adult said "hey, cool kids, come hang out with me! I make the stuff that you want! I KNOW YOU, cool kids!" which is the quickest way possible to ensure that cool kids want nothing to do with you or your brand.

They need to dump this guy and get the ex-JCPenny CEO to take over. He'll know how to turn this brand around.

It's not that they care about the egos of others, but how they, themselves, are viewed - it's hard to look cool to your peers if your peers think anyone that buys clothes at Abercrombie & Fitch is a douche. You don't want to be caught wearing the douche uniform, especially if there isn't an appropriate subculture backing it.

Stating the glaringly obvious about your customer base is the surest way to get them to shop somewhere else, it seems.

You don't see the CEO of Wal-Mart saying "we love selling junk to dirtbags" do you?

Hollister is a division of A&F.

Yeah, but until sales drop no one will care what he said or what he looks like.  We'll see if the main body of their shoppers care long enough to spend money elsewhere.

I don't think that they're going to change their definition of "douche uniform" based on corporate practices, is all.  If they thought it was cool last week, they still do.  HS and college snobs don't care if he was insensitive.

IIRC years ago he said something along similar lines about the people they hired at A&F stores. But they would hire a few "normies" (thats what they call the rest of us) to work there, but would keep them in the back.

Around 1997 a friend of mine applied for a job at A+F. She was super psyched they put her up front of the store because we all knew it was confirmation that she was pretty.

So I've spent the last 30 minutes looking at before and after plastic surgery pictures for celebrities, and I gotta say, all of them that I've seen (except Jennifer Aniston) look way better before they had the surgery done..

I've never seen Megan Fox (before today) in her pre-surgery look.  I should have figured she wasn't born looking like a cyborg, but never realized how much better she looked before surgery.

A consumer index report? Who cares? The only thing that matters is the quarterly earnings report. If revenue and profits fall below Wall Street's forecasts then the company has a problem. Otherwise the shareholders and researchers won't care what he says. Look at Apple, maker of products with some of the highest profit margins around. As long as they can beat estimates, it doesn't matter how expensive their stuff is. But watch them miss earnings forecasts, then the company will go into panic mode.

He would have to do well to beat the current "winner" in this field: Gerald Ratner. One after dinner speech about how crap his firms products were and $750m wiped off the companies value in a few days.

aww, poor baby.  here.  have some plastic surgery.  it will make you think you feel better.

im so glad i gave up on any name brand fashion interests 20+ years ago.  i remember hating the preppy kids that wore Z Cavaricci in the late 80s early 90s.  not the clothing but the people who wore them, and de facto the clothing by association later.

Damn, I have to do a better job grabbing screenshots.

Earlier today when I saw this article the opening line read "recently reported" instead of "previously reported" - "recently" being a real hoot since Salon itself was the one who got the original quote back in 2007 or something.

Either way, journalistic weaselry.

And there's not a damn thing in TFA about the company doing badly. All they have is a poll of perceptions. That and a handful of TP and you'll be able to wipe yourself competently. A&F stock is up about 10% this past week, and up 20% since November.

Being a snob sells. Always has, always will. Salon should know, since their target audience is leftists who like to think they know more than they do.
