Well, to be fair, milk tastes good and builds strong bones. Alcohol builds creativity, resourcefulness, grit, awareness, and getting shiat done around the house.

tigerose: John Buck 41 glad you liked it. Abandoned animals have been in my thoughts lately. They seem to be targets of some supreme cruelty of late. It hurts my soul.

I've been reading some really awful things people do to animals lately.  I don't know what drives people to be so cruel to others, whether it be animals or other human beings.

Every year I get calls from people who find cats and kittens thrown away like trash, found in boxes on porches, one litter found in a box in a parked truck, boxes of kittens on the side of the road. So far this spring I've taken in two litters of kittens thrown IN the trash. One man I know who feeds ferals found a litter of kittens in a garbage can. Last week we took in a litter found in a dumpster. All are doing well, the garbage can kittens are already adopted. The dumpster kittens are only around 3 weeks old, put in with a surrogate momma cat and growing.

But then we meet good people... An old guy called me to see if I can help him with his cat problem.  He had 7 young kittens he needed to find homes for and around 10 adults. We went to his home today, an old crappy trailer, inside was just piles of stuff in boxes and cats everywhere. There was food all over the living room for the cats, they were well fed, and a clean bowl of water. I think he probably spent more on cat food than he did for food for himself.

This man had no furniture, he had a beat up old folding chair he put out in the living room just in case I wanted to sit down. He offered all he had.
He brought out the kittens for me and showed me the adult cats, told me who the momma cats were to the kittens, he knew them all. He'd taken in a couple strays, but had no money to spay or neuter so 2 cats turned into almost 20 in a year.

It was obvious he loved his cats. He has to get rid of them because his landlord is selling the property so he has to move in with his daughter in another state and can't take them all. He brought out one of the cats he's keeping, a 15 year old cat that had cancer, he wants to keep her until the end of her life. He hugged her and gave her a kiss, wouldn't think of getting rid of her. There's another cat that's afraid of strangers, it would be difficult to adopt so he's keeping her too. The rest of the cats I'm going to take and try to find them homes.

I asked him about spaying the cat he wants to keep, he said he's a disabled veteran and only collects disability. I told him about the spay/neuter services in our area. He doesn't drive or have  a car to get the cat to the vet for it's spay appt, I'll figure out something there.

There was another guy at the trailer, a friend of his, he told me the friend "was once homeless, just like some of the cats" so he let the friend stay there. This old guy has absolutely nothing but the roof over his head, yet he was willing to share what little he had with someone else who needed help.

While we were standing there talking, he took out a piece of paper and said he had some questions to ask me before I took the cats. First thing he wanted to know is if we euthanize cats. I told him we're a no kill rescue and only euthanize if a cat is so sick it has no hope left. Then he asked if we bring cats to laboratories, I said never.
He explained he used to work at an animal shelter long ago and he needed to know if we did those things. I reassured him we didn't.

Even though this guy had nothing at all of monetary value, it was obvious he has a big heart. He was so grateful for us helping him out with the cats,  concerned that they'd be going to good homes. Sure he could have thrown them out on the street, in the trash or shot them like others around here do, but he didn't, he sought out help for the cats.

Really made my day to deal with someone like him instead of some of the others who call us. A lot of people could learn some lessons in life from him.

sherpa18: Pursuant to my prior comment about the white one bugging the sh*t outta me, it seems that the usual "midnight snack" offering of premium quality cat food is no longer acceptable.

He wants his gruel... aka renal diet food

/ i'm not sure whether to jump for joy or question his taste in food
// never mind, please excuse me while i go recover from "joy jumping"

Has he tried the Cat Sure yet? I wondered if he liked it or not.

There a other ways as well. Using a finely tuned shovel, swat the hovering bastard and listen for the satisfying 'ding' sound emitting from the shovel as it makes contact with the bee's ass. Since they have little hair to soften the impact, carpenter bees will make the shovel 'ring' longer and have much better hang time than your standard bumblebee.

In case you cannot find, or your neighbor has not yet returned your finely tuned shovel,
there is always this option.

Bound to be a hit with the other flying pests as well.

ArmednHammered: L33t Squirrel: Spiralmonkey: Have you tried a little bit of chilli or black pepper? Sometimes the opposite kind of hot taste brings out the flavour, like balsamic vinegar on strawberries.

But what about... Strawberry vinegar on strawberries? Seriously, I picked up a bottle at the local Asian mart, and it smells wicked spiffy, but I've no idea what to do with a "sweet" vinegar. :D

/might try it on strawberries later
//will either be awesome or awful

If that's the stuff I'm thinking of, you can make some good relish with diced cucumber and slivered red onion. Put it in a small jar and pour in the vinegar then let it set in the fridge for a few days. Goes good with grilled shrimp and egg rolls.

I have a number of fruit vinegars:  raspberry, pomegranate, pear, elderberry, and lavender. (I know, not a fruit, but weird for a vinegar)  Mostly I use them in salad dressings (vinaigrette), marinades, and as mentioned above, over fruits or vegetables.  I had not thought to do the relish, using it to pickle veggies is an awesome idea.  I'll bet they would be a great addition to chutneys too.

revisit lilypad's Kitten in Sporran  of yesterday.  Had some Seeks needing made. which took me to find that kilt is that of
Clan Leslie. Kings Own Scottish Borders, the Royal Regiment of Scotland founded 1622, serving mbrs of which may wear trews (trousers) of this tartan.
Pipers wear Royal Stewart, the so-familiar red one.

So this really could be  Cheeky in her youth in 1973!
Also find,  cat in box thought to be Furry the Queen Mum posted by moi yesterday,
is very similar but not her.  Now to tend to my medical hdwe programming needs.
