I_C_Weener: Fart_Machine: I_C_Weener: Halli: Why didn't Romney produce his tax records? Can you answer that?

Why didn't Obama give his transcripts. Can you answer that?

See how silly this is?

We need to move the goalposts again I see.

By no means.  I'm agreeing with those who don't think Obama should have had to disprove a negative.  But if you think there should be different rules for Republicans and Democrats, I can't stop you from thinking that.  Go team.  Rah, rah, rah.  Sis boom bah.

Well except that Obama released his tax records and I can see why you would want to change the subject.

So they are saying that Harry Reid was truthful and accurate.

/otherwise access to records wouldn't be an issue, right?

SilentStrider: Since he never released them, I'd say he probably never had them and was bluffing the whole time.

Likely this.  Liberals have mastered the game of knowing that facts don't matter.  Reid can stand up and say whatever he wants and he knows that the media will report it as if fact, and there is no way to counter the public opinion.

Did Romney spend a decade paying $0 to the Treasury?  Almost certainly not because the amount of money he made is nearly impossible to get the tax bill down to zero, even with a vast array of business tax credits and deductions.  But it doesn't matter because Reid says what he wants, the media reports it, and it is done.

Cletus C.: That would be the popular assumption. But you don't know that for sure. If we're going to go with gut feelings and speculation, maybe his tax returns were extremely complex and took legal advantage of various tax codes to reduce his overall tax burden. All perfectly legal and typical among the super rich. That, during a political campaign, would have been red meat to his opponents, who then, yes, would have made him look bad. Maybe that's the case but I don't know and neither do you.

That is pretty much my assumption.  Tax returns filled with all sorts of business credits, deductions, transfers, etc.  All in the name of doing what 100% of Americans should be doing: minimizing their tax burden to the lowest possible level.  But in a tax return that would run hundreds of pages, the entire Low Information Voter crowd consists of people that E-file a 1040EZ and wouldn't know any other forms if they saw them.  For Romney to release his tax returns, all it would take is one Ma and Pa Kettle couple to get ahold of one page that, by itself, looks shady simply because it's some credit or deduction that 99.999% of Americans don't even know exist.  Then it would be all "Well, would you look at that?!  I ain't never seen one of those . . ."  And then it's back to the narrative that Romney is an evil capitalist who only gets rich by stealing from other people.

c'mon, say it like you know it.

& by the way, facts certainly do matter. don't let yourself be fooled into thinking otherwise.
what the problem is is that truth doesn't matter, lies seem to be the ammunition of choice.
just turn on Fox News, they sell opinion as fact & lie just to get you to tune in!

kronicfeld: If I were a raving batshiat lunatic right-wing nutjob, I would definitely be wringing my hands over this one.

It's not like anybody actually liked Romney, even before he lost the election to a ni[bong!] (Hear that? The President is near!!!). Nah, he's going to get thrown under a bus.
