I always figured it was an easy bluff because he knew there was no way Romney was ever going to release the information.

MarshHawk: SilentStrider: Since he never released them, I'd say he probably never had them and was bluffing the whole time.

He may have been bluffing about having the information, but he was probably still accurate.  Romney didn't exactly trip over himself trying to prove Reid wrong.

Can I see your tax returns?  In thread for all to see.  I heard that you didn't pay any taxes in 2009.  I'm just trying to help you address these concerns.  1040 plus all attachments and schedules for the last 10 years should clear this up, don't you think?

And if Romney did disclose it, the chances are they could at least catch him making money...like a... capitalist!  *spits on the ground*

Seems odd that he elected to hide his very legal, patriotic, politically favorable activities.

This sounds very much like the birth certificate stuff.  WHY DON'T HE DISCLOSE IT IF HE'S GOT NOTHING TO HIDE?

Obama released the birth certificate though. So not really, no.

It's just not hard to understand. I'm sure there was nothing illegal to find, but Romney is a hyper wealthy smarmy elitist and that wouldn't play with the base. He hid the information from GOP voters, they were his biggest worry.

The thing is, Obama did. More than once. The nutters just chose to believe it was a forgery. Romney's tax history? Not so much.

Until Reid proves otherwise, he's a lying sack of shiat. It's not on Romney, it's on Reid.

Efforts to connect his alleged knowledge of Romney's taxes to the IRS clusterfark are a predictable fallout from the disturbing mess.

Man, a lot of people hate the IRS but love driving on roads and not having shiat in their drinking water.

I wonder if they understand the connection...

Not sure it's the ideal time to begin that campaign to reverse negative perceptions of the IRS.

Why not? You have an organization who's stated goal is to violated tax law. The people who's job it is to uphold tax law give this organization a more careful look, and there's the bad guys?

I think it's bullshiat, personally. If I was in charge of stuff, the IRS would have double the amount of auditors.

You are correct. Requesting that a Presidential candidate release ten years worth of income tax returns is unprecedented. A claim that such a release be a requirement for the trust of a Presidential candidate is so absurd that even the offspring of the claimant should be considered disqualified from holding public office.

And here's where the GOP scandle machine starts to have the wheels come off.
Not content with perhaps tying the President to any of this they are going to go all in and as the accusation fly more and more people will tune out.

The further afield the GOP runs with this the less good will they will develop.

Whitewater started as an investigation into a real estate deal.
Lots of people were outraged!!!

When it got down to a blow job people lost interest because although not many people are ever going to be "inside" enough to score on a insider real estate deal a great many thought "Yeah, no a blow job isn't sex"

Subtle the GOP ain't it

Good question.  Romney should release all those tax returns and if it turns out that Reid wasn't just pulling it out of his ass, questions should be asked.

That would be the popular assumption. But you don't know that for sure. If we're going to go with gut feelings and speculation, maybe his tax returns were extremely complex and took legal advantage of various tax codes to reduce his overall tax burden. All perfectly legal and typical among the super rich. That, during a political campaign, would have been red meat to his opponents, who then, yes, would have made him look bad. Maybe that's the case but I don't know and neither do you.
