This is fair game.

Here's how Reid's accusations went down last year: In an interview with The Huffington Post, Reid claimed he had been called by someone who had invested in Romney's former firm, Bain Capital. That person said Romney didn't pay taxes for 10 years.

"He didn't pay taxes for 10 years! Now, do I know that that's true? Well, I'm not certain," Reid told the liberal news outlet. "But obviously he can't release those tax returns. How would it look?"

I'm outraged!  Outraged I tell you!

When a headline ends with a question mark the answer is always no.

It kind of seems like the IRS was a free for all from the top down.

2013-05-16 09:07:44 AM
All you need is about $300, an IRS employee with access to their database, and a name or social security number, and you can get a copy of any tax return you like.

Since he never released them, I'd say he probably never had them and was bluffing the whole time.

Quite the dilemma: Admit that Harry Reid's information was factual, investigate the IRS, and risk discovering that it was merely a low-level "rogue" employee who gave him the information OR continue to deny that Reid's information was factual and thereby preclude an opportunity to attack the IRS and the administration? If I were a raving batshiat lunatic right-wing nutjob, I would definitely be wringing my hands over this one.

2013-05-16 09:24:47 AM
But I was told his information was false. So, I guess the answer is no? Or were we lied to by the Romney camp?

yes, let's revisit those returns. specifically, his 2009 return. you know - the one with the swiss amnesty.

No, if you were a right wing nutjob you would have studied it out and determined that 0bama has sunk his teeth into the IRS and he used information he got from his tax cabal there to deface Rmoney's campaign and steal the election. It's only further proof that despite being the most incapable leader in the history of the United States, Taxbongo has the entire government under his thumb and he's going to install himself as dictator any day now.

There is an "IRS scandal" with the IRS prioritizing the processing of certain 501(c) groups based on political affiliation.

If the IRS gave Reid Romney's tax returns, that too would be an "IRS scandal."

Since both sentences contain the phrase "IRS scandal," we can assume they are linked.

/RWA logic.

The GOP response to a report that its former presidential nominee is a tax cheat: discredit the report. If that doesn't work, say it was immoral to report that Mitt is a tax cheat.

I'm sorry, but I thought the official line throughout the campaign was that it absolutly untrue as Harry would have no way of knowing.

Is now true? Why for why the flip flop?

It's called a bluff.  Reid made it, and kept it up long enough for Romney to sweat and flinch under pressure.

Reid's not the brightest guy in the room at all, but he's a smart political tactician.  I'd be surprised if he didn't account for this.

Yes. Conducting Congressionally-mandated verification of groups seeking tax-exempt status means the IRS is out of control.

You haven't been reading the news, they also have all the HIPAA data on 10,000,000 people as well, all taken with direct threats instead of warrants.

That assumes facts not in evidence. Namely, that right wing conspiracy nutters (redundant, I know) maintain any sort of internal logical consistency in their ravings and lunacy. They do not. They will continue to deny the facts while pressing for an investigation and attacking the IRS and every Democrat in office.

He may have been bluffing about having the information, but he was probably still accurate.  Romney didn't exactly trip over himself trying to prove Reid wrong.
