If they make it by San Antonio (or GS I suppose) this is the only concern for them in the Finals. They lack big time playoff experience. Hard to win it all on your first trip there, I think there's naturally a little bit of happy to be here-itis.

That's why even if they make it to Finals and play the Heat I'd lean towards the Heat in 6 or 7. Even though Memphis might be ideally built to beat Miami, I think their inexperience will hurt them in the Finals.

/forget about it if GS makes, Heat in 5
/I don't think San Antonio is going to make it but that would be a good series

Memphis doesn't strike me as a team that is going to succumb to "jitters" or anything. I can still see the Heat beating them regardless, I just don't see the Griz beating themselves in the process via tactical and/or mental errors stemming from a lack of experience. The fact the Griz are content being a plodding, methodical, and at times sort of ugly team overall (playing style, not commenting on their chances of being underwear models post-basketball career) in this era I think in of itself is a sign of their "fark you, this is who we are" mental fortitude.

/that said, Conley's maturity and Gasol's basketball IQ are far from "boring" or "ugly".

While we're at it, Tony Allen also has a ring. So, that's two guys in their starting lineup who aren't exactly foreign to the concept of "playing in the Finals".

I don't know if the Heat can beat Memphis. They really don't have an answer for Z-Bo and Gasol. Heck, for that matter, Hibbert and Indiana have a better than a puncher's chance against the Heat.
Or to further punish the Bulls fans, in addition to your team becoming a bunch of modern day Bill Laimbeer's, if LeBron wins the title this year, he would have done it against a higher level of competition than any of the Bull's championships.

That 1996 Bulls team was ridiculously good. The Sonics team the beat in 6 was ridiculously good. I'm not sure any other team of that era could have taken that Bulls squad to 6 games.

I'll put it this way; I wouldn't be "surprised" necessarily if Memphis beats them, since they have such interior dominance, but OKC (while not as good at it) also had more beef in the middle to throw at Miami, and it mattered f*ck all in that series.

The 1993 Suns team thinks your assessment is turrible. Had anyone one other than McMahon-Stern been running the league, the Bulls may not have won that series.

As a Suns fan...the Suns shot SIXTY-FOUR free throws against the SuperSonics in Game 7 of their series to help them get to those Finals.

And I think the 91 Lakers and Pistons would like a to interject themselves into this conversation as well. End of an era for the Lakers dynasty but still...a dynasty at the end is still a high level of competition.

I almost feel bad for the Utah Jazz fans of the 90s. Watching Malone and Stockton fail time after time in the playoffs must have been brutal. Usually having a 10-year run with 2 HOFers on your team leads to at least 1 title. I only almost feel bad for them because the Sonics had basically the same thing going on, just less douchey.

One of my all time favorite players.  Hope the Griz make it to the finals so he gets another crack at a ring.

That's because LeBron is an alien from outer space.  Probably from the same quadrant Jordan came from.

The Lakers were old farkers, and the Pistons had Isaiah on bloody stumps, the Knicks had to rely on Charles Smith. There's a reason why Barkley never got to a second finals, and only Michael Hutchenson choked more than Malone & Stockton.

Oh but you did have the  Blazers with Kevin Duckworth.

Drexler was pretty good on that Portland team too.

I'm a Bulls fan and the thing most people don't remember is Jordan and Pip are the only two players that played on more than 3 of those championship rosters. The entire team turned over between the 2 sets of 3peats. So they were dominant, but only because of 2 great players and a solid #3 in each run (HoGrant and Rodman)

Perkins was ineffective against the Heat (and in general) because he is useless offensively, and useless defensively unless going against traditional centers. Same goes for the criminally overrated Ibaka to a lesser degree. Memphis should have the advantage of controlling the boards, the paint, and a superior inside-out game in a match up against the Heat.

Miami/Memphis finals is what I'm looking forward to. But I'll be cheering for the Heat because I hate Memphis for taking the Griz from Canada and I can't help but appreciate the greatest player of this generation.

They were dominant because of Jordan. Without him they were a playoff team, IIRC, but not one that was a real threat to win a title at all. If Jordan doesn't come back for 1996, the Sonics run away with that title.

How were they not a threat? The year Jordan didn't play the playoffs, they lost in 7 to the Knicks, in part because of a bogus foul in Game 5 that gave the Knicks a lead with 2 seconds left.

/not sure if they win the titles, but in any case, saying a team wouldn't be dominant without their best player is pretty pointless
//they were dominant because of Jordan, Pippen, and Jackson

Fair enough. My point was just that it's pretty cut and dried what that team was without MJ. They were good, not great.
