Still not getting how vetting political organisations pretending not to be political organisation is a scandal

Did any expect anything different?  I think the IRS and the AP thing are bringing back the Benghazi thing, because the press wants a trifecta.

The GOP's problem is that they are going to lead with Benghazi, which isn't a scandal.  That's going to kill their whole chance at impeachment.

They can't go with the AP thing, they like government intrusion too much.  I think their best bet is the IRS one, no one is going to step up to defend the IRS, but sadly the guy who it points to was appointed by Bush.

I've said recently that I feel like the GOP suffers from Boy who Cried Wolf syndrome. They've been calling "scandal" for so long that even if there's merit now, it's hard to get the public to care at all.

Not that I'm sympathetic.

Why don't we start one of those White House petitions to investigate where Darrell Issa is getting all of his conformational information from? Or how about one into how Bachmann gets all of her farm subsidies? Or how about this, lets get a petition to study how much the Republican petitions, filibusters and what not have cost the tax payer.

After a dozen years or so of seeing right-wing political enemies pepper-sprayed in the face, electrocuted in the genitals, beaten, robbed, short-changed and foreclosed upon, I just can't muster up the outrage over these groups that had to do some extra paperwork.

In fact, fark you.

Aaaaand this is the difference between the GOP/Obama and Dems/Bush.  I actually think the GOP might be able to get some of this (IRS/Benghazi/AP wiretapping) to stick on Obama.  Whereas after 8 years of Bush, Dems couldn't do anything to get Bush in trouble.  About the worst scandal to Bush's White House was Valerie Plame, and the only one who got busted was Scooter Libby.

Perhaps Dems are just incompetent when it comes to this sort of thing?

Welcome to all of these "scandals." They aren't really worried about the evidence, they don't care about improving embassy security moving forward or preventing IRS overreach - they want bad headlines and they want heads. That's all.

This issue is going to get obnoxious real fast, as Glenn Beck's "The Blaze" is now trying to claim that conservatives were being audited unfairly for years using the fact that one (Anne Hendershott) was audited in 2010 and is now for the first time that she felt they were asking questions to track down other conservatives she might be connected to.

This is why you HAVE to be non-partisan in your determinations: the IRS Cincinnati Field Office has managed to completely undermine trust in the agency and justify everyone critical of Obama claiming victimization even in cases where they are being non-partisan.

what the hell is wrong with you?

Profiling based on things an individual has no control over (race, country of origin, sexual preference, gender, etc) = BAD

Profiling based on things an individual's actions and positions that they have control over (membership in a terrorist group like Al Queda or the GOP, stated goals of an organization, intent, etc) = perfectly legit.

2. Conservatives will claim theyre victimized regardless of what the IRS does.

There's an element to elected democrats that seems to believe they were elected to... what's the word? Govern.  That's it.

Scandals take up a lot of the governments resources and time and tend to get in the way of actual business.

Which is why republicans are so much more drawn to blowing up even the smallest thing into this "worse than Watergate" nonsense.  They don't care about governing and they have no agenda for doing so anyway.

Plus- to conservatives politics is a game.

Anyway the ni-BONG goes doesn't really matter to the GOP!

2013-05-16 08:34:18 AM
Impeachment is the last thing the GOP wants. Impeachment proceedings would mean that they have to put up or shut up. If they had conclusive proof tying Obama to any of these incidents they wouldn't shut up about it. As it stands all they have to do is keep making noise and they gradually chip away at what political capital his administration still possesses.

2013-05-16 08:34:18 AM
This is how it's going to be from now on.  Nonstop baseless scandal-mongering until the black man is out of the White House.

Have you figured it out yet, Obama?  They'll never play nice with you.  No amount of capitulation will ever earn you any more than what you're being given right now.  It's time to finally give them something to complain about, and cut them entirely out of the process with every procedural trick in your arsenal.

It worked with Clinton, the public got tired of the constant scandal, so decided to elect a Republican.

2013-05-16 08:37:37 AM
Of course the GOP will continue. They've put in so much political capital to promoting these 'scandals' that now they can't do anything but, regardless of what the facts are. In pokers terms, they are pot committed.

Of course, the flipside is that some on the left have done exactly the same thing and are equally committed to their side being right, regardless of any other considerations.
