In other words, "sales sucked balls after we implemented this, so we're going back to what we know makes money."

/You're still a bunch of dicks, EA. Dropping out of Steam killed you for me.
//Though I'll go out on a limb and say NOT the worst company in America.

Now all they need to do is stop choking the life out of the studios they buy, stop trying to bilk customers out of $10 for 15 minute DLCs, stop making you pay extra for on-disc DLC...

2013-05-16 08:55:40 AM
Still not going to buy any of your shiat, EA. Fark you, your microtransactions, your watered down games/DLC, and your shiatty business practices.

I have no problem with studios attempting to sell money-grabbing junk, but I hate it when they claim that it's for *my* benefit ("richer gaming experience" BS, etc.).

2013-05-16 08:59:22 AM
So there is hope they'll let Bioware be Bioware instead of micromanaging them into the ground? Right? Please? Someone help me reinforce this delusion at least for a little while.

I agree with you but no matter how we feel about them we have to recognize the EA actually did something positive and hopefully others will follow their example. If EA got back on steam I might actually purchase an Battlefield 4.

If The Old Republic didn't kill that notion, you have nothing to worry about.

At least with the exclusive Star Wars contract, there is a vague hope that there will be a KOTOR 3, and an even more remote chance it won't suck.

I look forward to viewing the ending colour choices of the next Star Wars game.

I, for one, am pleased.

I liked and enjoyed ME 3 (especially after the better ending was released).

I normally pick up 1 EA sports title a year (generally Madden). I also generally get it used. So this works for me.

Good old Fark though. biatch about what they don;t have instead of appreciate what they do.

Good start, long way to go until you can convince me to be a customer again though.  Keep at it, at least its in the right direction.

All the other posters are naive.

The new consoles are soon to be announced and EA has already moved to creating content for them. Those consoles will reportedly have built in systems to limit second hand games.

EA doesn't need this bullcrap half measure that costs them money and time to implement and maintain. The new Xbox and PS4 will handle this problem for them.

2013-05-16 09:43:18 AM
With the new consoles reportedly having features that will bar second hand game sales, Online Pass looks to be something of a redundancy.

My real hope is that many of the Bioware employees will get sick of EA and defect to Bethesda.

Oh wait, that could actually be bad. An Elder Scrolls game with a compelling main plot and secondary characters would swallow my soul.

I would take those reports with a large grain of salt. Nothing has been officially announced about that by either Sony or Xbox and the WiiU is already out.

Whine, whine, whine, EA hate, etc...

Gamers are stupid, but game companies are killing the industry. The other thing that is an abomination is that Season Pass bullshiat. All it indicates to me is that a publisher wants me to pay $60 for a half completed game so they can sell me the rest of the content at $20. I've been a gamer for over thirty years, but I've finally hit my limit with game company bullshiat.

I would assume that as such an experienced gamer you have been aware of expansion packs and add-ons for all of those  30 years. The only thing new about DLC is the fact that it's downloaded.

Initially launched as an effort to package a full menu of online content and services, many players didn't respond to the format," Reseburg said.

I always find it interesting how corporations engage clever word play to avoid any admission of trying to screwing the player.

I wonder if there is a degree offered in this from somewhere.  EA seems to have particular need for such skills as they try to explain away their draconian control measures.

Randomly: EA doesn't need this bullcrap half measure that costs them money and time to implement and maintain. The new Xbox and PS4 will handle this problem for them.

As happens, I refuse to purchase products which have those type of measures implemented.  I am fine going back to board games.

Don't worry, instead they have always on internet required DRM with microtransactions and in-game advertising, just in case you thought they learned their lesson.

KOTOR2 was awesome, right up until they went to Malachor. It turns out that the game was rushed-out at the very end and a very compelling and complicated ending planet and ending was drastically curtailed and abbreviated. A lot of that ending is actually still on the disk! Here are the details.

To whet your appetite, Malachor starts with your Jedi underlings being separated from you and having THEM attack Traya on their own - leading to their defeat. It is by far the biggest 'could have been awesome' title released. All because LucasArts wanted to make the entire game in 14 months....

And I believe this has already been proven false by both Microsoft and Sony.  Frankly, there are other reasons than this misconception which are contributing to the current resurgence of PC gaming.

As for EA, f**k them and f**k this move.  They cut online passes because they're forcing their games to be online all the time.  Online pass was only implemented to combat piracy, and EA obviously thinks that forcing everyone to be online constantly is the best way to do it.

There's no pro-customer intent in this move--it's all just EA saying 'why bother' because they went one step further, and the idiot consumers still bought their tripe (looking at you, SimCity).

And didn't the BioWare founders already cash out and leave the company after EA acquired it?  They were half of the brains and talent behind these games in the first place, so there's no reason to suspect that the gaming public will receive anything worthwhile from that studio again in the future.

I am very surprised by this move.  It made perfect sense from their standpoint.  It makes me suspicious that the new consoles will somehow have a feature that is the equivalent to an online pass, thereby letting the publishers shift the criticism over to Microsoft and Sony.

I haven't seen any official word on this, just a bunch of speculation. Supposedly the 360 and the PS3 were to do the same thing.

I might be really late to the multiplayer party, but having to pay for XBOXGold to play NHL13 online is f*cking horsesh*t.

A game mode, on disc that I need to pay extra for to use.

F*ck that.

I don't know if that's EA's fault or XBOX's fault, but it f*cking sucks a fat one.

Ubisoft is even worse than EA especially if you play PC games. They've loosened up lately but I can still remember buying a few Ubisoft titles that didn't work because the DRM didn't like my brand of DVD burner and Ubisoft was pushing the always online requirement before EA even thought of it.

Ubisoft? They're the one company that might actually be worse than EA when it comes to malicious, anti-consumer business practices. Their DRM schemes routinely set the bar for low blows against legitimate buyers.

I have no idea what the online mode of NHL 13 entails, but, I assure you, the Multiplayer mode is not "on disc" anymore than the World of Warcraft game is "on disc" just because that's where the client code and graphics sit.

I don't understand people who act surprised to discover that a persistent online game world costs more money than just what you paid for the static content in the box. Like I said, I don't know what all NHL 13 entails, so it may well not be worth the price they're asking, but to say it's on the disc and so should be included in the static price of the game is a bit silly.

Being able to play online is not a persistent world. PC gamers have never paid for multiplayer action on non-MMO games. The only reason console gamers have to is because you are a captive audience. MS controls the X-box 360 experience while PC gamers control their own.

That is pretty much any game on the 360. You need to pay the $5 or so to use it.

...judging by your handle, I'm guessing $5/month isn't that big of a deal to you.

Because for years and years and years, when I buy a game on PC, the f*cking online component comes with it.

No extra charge.

Bite me, EA... you won the argument that my pre-order did not have a "reasonable expectation of functionality"... you stole my money... once... and now I'll never do business with you again. Get rid of online passes, do whatever you feel like doing... nobody's going to go back to you.

I am tired of pre order bonuses specific to retailers and endless dlc that can sometime cost as much as a game depending on when you buy it, why i still enjoy my super nintendo and ps2 every once in a while, never even opened battlefield three that i got as a gift

just played old  old school syndicate wars, fun stuff

I black listed EA years ago.  Origin just makes it easier to ignore them.  I see this BS and read about Sim City and the like and I can't help but laugh.  Then I think about how they're screwing over the entire gaming industry and I has a sad.

Wow, it's almost like you think running massive server farms is free, why not quit your complaining and try thinking rationally.

Also, it's Microsoft. Developers aren't allowed to offer multiplayer modes to users without Xbox LIVE Gold.

People still play on consoles?

Sorry folks, I go PC. No yearly XBox fees or that stupid shat. Of course BLOPS2 is trying to go that route with 'upgrades', but I doubt this will last long.
