In before the super clever 'people still pay for porn?' comment.

FTA:

In addition to the Hustler media company, the building also houses the consulates for Brazil and Ecuador.

strangely appropriate.

I've got to wonder what the future is for porn.

Porn isn't like regular movies. You watch The Avengers and you see a giant hulk, motion-captured from a man, punching a giant space alien. And the detail is incredible. You compare it to the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park and it's incredible.

Compare it to porn from 20 years ago, and well, it's pretty much the same product. Arguably, it's now a worse product as porn from the 70s-90s had some pretty high production values compared to what you get now. And there's what, tens of thousands of movies out there? Why would you pay $20 for one that's just made rather than buying a DVD of something from the 80s or 90s for $5?

You are watching the wrong porn.
There's a lot of stuff that's still being made with the traditional model, but there's also a new wave of beautifully filmed, high-gloss/high production value stuff coming out from web-only outlets e.g. Nubiles, X-Art or WebYoung. There's definitely an up-market proposition that works since a 19 year old couple with an HD Camera isn't going to just show up and film a 3-camera scene set against the backdrop of a gorgeous Czech sunset or on a Caribbean Island.

The other huge area for innovation really comes from the ability to connect with performers and get EXACTLY the porn you want. Lots of girls are doing Clips4sale sites now, where users can directly interact with their favorite people and get them to do what they're willing to pay to see.

Porn in general gains a lot from technological innovations and in that way it actually drives wider adoption of technologies. I suspect there's a way forward in the mobile world, but it's anybody's guess what that thing might be, or whether it will be of greatest benefit to studio-made porn or from the many, many amateurs giving it away for free on XHamster or Reddit or whatever.
