777 ETOPS - 330 Minutes  So, what does ETOPS mean?

In Engineering terms it stands for: Extended-range Twin-engine Operational Performance Standards
In the Real World it means: Engines Turn Or Passengers Swim.

Meh, nbd... GE engines are the problem, not the plane itself, I'm sure the A&Ps will get some overtime to inspect/fix all of these, and even with one engine out, the odds of both engines simultaneously failing are extraordinarily minimal. All else being equal, I have a flight on Monday scheduled to be on one, and I'm sure I'll be fine. :P

Oh, it's GE this time. Last time it was Rolls-Royce engines getting clogged with ice, resulting in British Airways Flight 38 from Beijing crashing at the end of the runway at Heathrow.

Always loved to fly, though in recent years the economic realities have tended to engender a rather more subdued mood.

It's the basic mathematics:

4 - 1 = 3

2 - 1 = 1

Then whatever happened to Engine #1 begins to affect Engine #3:

3 - 1 = 2

1 - 1 =

...if you're lucky, and not sharing a grog with Davey Jones.

TFA:GE spokesman Rick Kennedy said the engine maker found that in both cases a small gearbox under the front fan that pumps oil and fuel around the engine was found to have cracked and separated.

He said a defect in the advanced metal alloy is suspected. The gearbox is made by Avio of Italy.
