I read the headline as biatching and squawking.

I kind of get wrapped up in Idol once in a while, but this season has been unwatchable. Between Nicki "autotune" Minaj's complete lack of qualifications to judge singers, and Randy Jackson's "yo, yo, yo" circuit skipping, I'm hoping the show gets canceled for good.

That, or bring on some REAL judges of talent.

And acknowledge the f*cking band, will ya? These cats play the sh*t out of everything they're given, and get no recognition except occasionally in music trade magazines. We have to listen to a succession of prima donna wannabes caterwauling and ruining great songs until people with nothing more interesting to do get sick of them and vote them off, meanwhile these unsung heroes of musicianship are ignored.

I have no idea what the show is about, but that is an awesome headline.

AI hasn't been a bastion of quality before, but the show started to really suck once Simon left. At least he had the balls to tell the crappy singers that they couldn't sing at all. Mariah mostly tries to sit still, look pretty and resist the urge to strangle Nicki. Randy still hasn't discovered how to say any words other than "yo", "dawg", and "pitchy". Nicki actually tells it like it is, but she tends to hide her criticisms in long, rambling Paula Abdul-esque bouts of verbal diarrhea. Keith Urban is there to court the country music listener demographic. Unfortunately, a lot of the contestants sing his f*cking boring songs in a lame attempt to kiss his ass. Jimmy Iovine is only there to try to look "hip" and shill his overpriced garbage.

The contestants this year were bland, and their song choices have been even blander. This is the first season of AI where I stopped bothering to watch a whole episode and just caught the highlights on Hulu instead.

You know, I watched a handful of episodes for the first time in years recently at the behest of my younger sister who's head over heels in love with this season's batch of singers. Nikki has to be one of the most useful judges on that panel. She gives pretty good critiques and constructive criticism. She's also not afraid to be mean. Mariah Carey, however, is effing useless.

I didn't know Muppets could enter in contract negotiations. Isn't that Brian Henson's job? I saw her interview with Graham Norton, and it was the most painful thing I've ever seen on the show, second only to the Justin Bieber interview.

There are two celebrities that the internets contstantly accuse of having no talent. 4 if you include Gaga (immensely talented, overshadowed by her look and controversial dress) and Li'l Wayne (creative, but mildly retarded).  Justin Beiber and Nicki Minaj. Justin can play drums and sing well. I don't follow his music or career, but I am pretty sure the boy has a ton of talent. Probably has always been the most talented guy in the room his whole life. It is music for kids, and if you are not a kid, then don't biyatch about how it's not good. It is reading a childrens book and complaining that the plot is too simple.

Secondly, Minaj. Time and time again I have defended her actual rhyming capabilities. Those should never be in dispute. She did a verse on Monster and held her own (in my opinion outshined) Jay Z and Kanye. Most of her music now is  club music.  If you do not go to clubs, or enjoy to dance, then you shouldn't be listening to her.

Plenty of actually talentless artists out there, including dozens or boring rappers. Wayne and Minaj are at the very least, not boring, and have a unique style not to be mistaken with anyone else.  Annoying to you doesn't translate to talentless. Just not your cup of tea. Realize you have become your parents and someone is playing punk music and you complain that it is just noise by a bunch of long hairs.

Hasn't it been mentioned that all of the panel is going to be canned at the end of this year? This is just them doing it slowly so not to overlap each one's own ego. A person will quit every week until their is none. Anyway.....Beez in a trap beez beez in a trap

OK, wait a minute.

Minaj maybe has a iota of talent left.  How big that iota is...well, that's up for debate.

But Lil' Wayne's talent packed its' shiat and left at least five years ago, or whenever he decided that taking word salads and separating them into verses was a good idea.  Some of his recent songs are so nonsensical, even for rap standards, that listening to them could actually induce brain hemorrhages.  Honestly, I never found him that good myself, but at least for a while, he gave a shiat about his verses.  Now...it's like they get him doped up on the strongest weapons-grade narcotics they have laying around, lock him in the booth, and start the recording equipment.  It's like that Patton Oswalt bit about the comedian on heroin.

Unique style?   This isn't even music.  You need a melody for it to be considered a song.  This is just annoying noises and her "rapping".

Also, her makeup makes her farking ugly.

The show stopped being about the contestants, and became about the judges.

So they destroyed their own format.

That said, I think the 'talent show' format itself is played out and dead. Since almost NONE of the winners actually become lasting stars (with a few exceptions), even the concept itself is ultimately worthless.

2013-05-16 12:52:36 AM
Simon Cowell was the only worthwhile judge the show ever had. And he can't sing a note.

And that's because it doesn't matter how well a judge can sing. It's how well they can evaluate the contestants, and clearly articulate their evaluation.

And that is a skill neither Mariah or Minaj have.

Do you not think older people were disgusted with Madonna and called her music smut at the time?  I was a child, but I am sure that is the case. Also, if you watch a video of Gaga playing piano and singing, you can see the talent.

Then again, I don't remember anyone ever gushing over how uber talented Madonna was.  Her act was shtick and everyone including Madonna knew it.

As to Gaga, it really doesn't make one whit of difference how talented she is when she chooses to write generic dance/pop and draw attention to herself via bizarre costumes.

They should just hype the fact that they will have three new judges every year (and keep Tug Boat Jackson there as an anchor to what the show used to be about) and get the remaining fans excited about who's coming to judge (maybe even have a contest among the celebs, with the fans voting, to find who gets to sit in those seats for the season).

American Idol:

This season, the producers' desire to have a female winner was so transparent as to take any mystery out of the results. They stacked the deck with women who were 100x better than the men. The only good judge is Keith Urban.

Nicki Minaj:

One of the most disappointing careers I've seen after a promising start. Her verse on Kanye's "Monster" was farking amazing, and I thought she was going to take the hip hop scene by storm. She looked like she was going to be Lil' Kim x 10. Then she releases an album full of horrible, bland club music. I don't get it

Uh, yeah. I heard it all and, as I stated before, anyone that calls Gaga "controversial" should go back to the 80s and see Madonna's material.

I was a child, but I am sure that is the case. Also, if you watch a video of Gaga playing piano and singing, you can see the talent.

Absolutely; also: her duet with Tony Bennett.  If one can't still see that she's got talent after watching that, they're blind.

I would love nothing more than to be my parents and to be scared and confused by what this generation is doing.   Instead it's all just stale, boring, predictable commercial snorefests.   I thought it was quite apropos that the biggest buzz coming from this year's Coachella festival was an advertisement for the new Daft Punk album.  They finally just skipped the charade and made a commercial the headliner.
