"...I don't know if I'm sold on stretching an entire season over such a short period of time. I guess we'll see."

Meh.  The show jumps around so much we probably won't even really notice.

I'm interested in the concept.  I'll watch.

Who would've ever thought that little Willow Rosenberg woud grow up, move to the big city, change her name, and forget all about Sunnydale?

Isn't the new season of Arrested Development doing something similar?  All 13 episodes take place at the same time but focus on different characters.

So most of that weekend will be of Ted pining over Robin and then instantly forgetting her the moment he sees the mom?

I am so over this show. Well...almost. If there was no end in sight, I'd just give up. It used to be hysterical, but then the best and worst characters on the show got engaged and the second-best and second-worst characters got married and had a baby. It's ok now. I'll be glad when it's over.

PowerSlacker: People still watch the shiatfest that are the CBS sitcoms?

Yeah, in fact more people watch them than any other network's sitcoms. So it's YOU that is in the minority.

The "trilogy" episode and Robin Daggers were great and Weekend at Barney's was pretty good. I agree it's gone downhill but it still has some shining moments.

The shining moments are the reason I didn't just dump the show altogether.

I was talking to someone recently who watches the show al the time. New episodes, reruns, streaming... everything.
So, I asked:

'you know Alyson Hanigan plays Lily, right?' Of course.
'And you know who plays Marshall?' Naturally, Jason Segel.
'Well of course you know the actor who plays Barney?' EASY ONE! NPH!
'And the other girl, Robin?' Cobie Smulders, yeah.

'OK. Who plays Ted?'

To be fair, I've followed this show since the beginning and the vast majority of the recent episodes have been almost unwatchable for me.  They're too focused on Robin, who is probably the least interesting character at this point (other than Ted) and, for the most part, they just haven't been funny.  I'll keep watching it because at this point I'm just too invested in the show to do otherwise but I look forward to each episode less and less as time goes on.

Your point?

Ted is the glue of this show. As the season go on he is the everyman, while everyone else has increasingly more and more zanier stories. It isn't about who plays him, cause we don't need to bring in external preconceived notions about him to put on the character, Ted works, because the character and the actor who plays him isn't anything special on the surface

Could it be that Josh Radnor hasn't done anything else in his career except play Ted Mosby? Alyson Hanigan, Jason Segel, and Neil Patrick Harris were all huge stars before the show started, and I'm betting most folks wouldn't know Cobie Smulders if she didn't have that weird name. She also isn't as well known as you are indicating.

Finale, final scene:

TED is talking to KIDS. His face is hidden.

TED: (V.O.): ... and so that is how I met your mother.

ROBIN enters.

ROBIN: Ok, guys. Story time's over. It's past your bedtime. Everybody upstairs.

KIDS: Awww!

TED: Now, now, listen to your stepmom. Tomorrow night, I'll tell you how I divorced your mother and finally married the love of my life.

KIDS: Yay!

ROBIN smiles, sits on TED's lap and affectionately musses his hair. Fade out.

He wrote, directed and starred in Liberal Arts, which was good. And his earlier movie, Happythankyoumoreplease, while too "mumblecore" for my taste, was still decent.

Am I the only one hoping that the 'Mother' in question is some one night stand that get's knocked up, tracks Ted down and sues him for child support. He never get's Robin or much of anything else he wants in life, but he slaves away to provide for his kids who live with the mother and never see him. The final scene reveals a 50 something Ted writing at a desk. Zoom in as he finishes a letter with 'And that's how I met your mother' then he pulls a pistol from the desk and the camera pans away as we hear a single shot.
I quit smoking today and my brain is boiling with darkness. Is this how goths feel all the time?

I think calling Jason Segel a "huge star" because of two unwatched, short-run television series is pushing it.

Is Barney the p8ssy hound played by that gay guy - doogie howser?

When he came out that alone brought the series to a screeching halt.
He's gay in real life? Who cares?
But to have a gay guy playing an over-the-top womanizer?
It screams 'over compensation'. (Although he was pretty funny in the 'Harold and Kumar' flicks.)

Andthat wimpy guy who can't find love?
Farking allah what a mopey dopey wimp of a guy; no wonder no woman would have him.

I hope you're kidding. He has been in numerous, successful movies, and is the main character in two of my favorite comedies: "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and "I Love You Man."

That. That has to be the ending. You know Ted isn't going to make his first marriage work.  Robin will fark everybody in sight, then at the end she'll go back to Ted because she's tired.

Geez, you'd think Farkers could spot a troll when they see one. The producers are trolling the fans here. I wouldn't be surprised if the first couple of episodes were how various people met the mother before Ted did, but there's no way that's the entire season.

Also I don't believe that Robin and Barney could fall in love with each other, so I lost interest in the show when all that started.
