Chelsea don't stand a chance, the other team is managed by Jesus.

Sort of want to see Benfica pull out a win, but Chelsea has not lost to them in the last six matches. Moses has been tipped by the oddsmakers to score today.

So you're saying that with the help of Jesus, Cardozo shall part the Blue Sea? Perhaps it's a day of miracles after all

Does the winner of the NIT of Europe get the same participation trophy as the US's NIT, or is there an actual prize at the end of the Cracker Jack box?

Not sure how serious... but for their reward, they get to play the winner of the Champions League (Dortmund or Bayern) for the UEFA Super Cup next season. Surely they will be crushed, but Atletico Madrid (Europa Winner) defeated Barcelona (CL Winner) this season so who knows... but it's not a prestigious prize--more of an exhibition.

Oh damn. Then all we can hope is that Jesus > Moses

If Dortmund wins, and half their team gets bought by Bayern, I can see a sh*tload of people banking on Chelsea winning. Of course, by then Klupp will have replaced the likes of Goetze and Lewandowski with random Polish guys on no one else's radar who are actually really f*cking good and they'll win 3-1.

Book it, done.

ESPNfc noted that if Arsenal wins 2-1 and Chelsea draws at Everton 0-0, Arsenal and Chelsea will have to have a playoff game since they'll have the exact same final points, goal differential, home and away goals. Got to feel for Benfica, losing their title (pretty much) on a last second winner at the weekend, and losing the Europa league on a last second winner today.

When is Geoff Shreeves going to tell Ivanovic that he scored the winning goal for Chelsea and that means they win the Europa League, that means they get the trophy this year?

... er, wait, that's not how that joke goes.

If Rafa didn't have ties to the red half of Merseyside, I'd say Everton would be bonkers not to try and pick him up. Wonder where he goes next? Malaga?

Athletico Madrid (EL2012) crushed Chelsea (CL2012) in the last Super Cup, not Barca.

This is the first year they are moving the Super Cup away from Monaco. It will be in Prague, so now the media will have a field day with Petr Cech and tickets will be a biatch to get.

Since I didn't get my way with Benfica, I hope Chelsea will meet Dortmund. Might be easier to get tickets to, as opposed to Bayern-Chelsea.

I followed Chelsea through this whole EL campaign. The fact that they were so disingenuous makes this even harder to swollow.

Good for them, I guess it shows their depth. But even Barcelona have a few UEFA Cups and would take it half a serious as Chelsea did.

But now Barca is old news, right...

I think the thing that kills the English clubs going full bore after the UEFA Cup is their TV contract.  If you see some of the other leagues, clubs involved in the Europa League will have their fixtures moved up/back a day or two so that they have enough rest in between league/cup and Europa League fixtures.

What also didn't help was some law UEFA wrote in their charter that doesn't allow the top domestic leagues to play fixtures at the same time/day as the European competitions.  It's a reason why UEFA held about £1 Million to the English FA because they may have "violated" this provision.  It's really a dumbass provision because it really gluts the fixture list and really backs up teams and puts pressure on their squad.  Also: fans of clubs not involved in a fixture on at the same time as the CL/EL would rather tune in to see those anyway.  I remember reading about Arsenal having one of the lowest crowds in Highbury's history for a 1st Division fixture because the game was being played at the same time as the Cup Winners Cup Final between Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund in the late 60s.

City seem to be in for Pelligrini. If the rumors are to be believed, they've already had talks with him. I'm sure Rafa would be a fine backup to whatever they have planned, if not a better plan.
There aren't too many places he can go and be in contention. He'd be a longshot for the Madrid opening, if he had a problem with the mercs in Chelsea, he'll be way in over his head with the mercs at Real.

There is some prize money in it - enough for the lighter weights with less payroll to try to win it - but not a lot. There is talk of merging the two in two years' time and having a larger pool of teams competing in the Champions League. But I dunno the details about that.

Rarely are they moving the EL matches to Tuesday or Wednesday, but it happens. In our case (Sparta Prague), they get the Czech league to move their Sat/Sun league match to Monday so they can play Thursday- Monday. But it's a case of maybe one Czech club is in the CL and one in EL, or two in EL, so they are very accommodating. When English clubs have 4 in the CL plus another 2-3 in the EL, that's a large number of impacted matches that all want some space in their schedule.

If I were Michel Platini, I would keep CL as Tuesday, split Wednesday as a CL and EL day, and keep EL as a Thursday dedication. EL is already playing at 7pm and 9pm on Thursday with a huge number of matches in two time slots. Why not play some EL matches at 7pm on Wednesday ahead of the CL? I know I would watch 4 hours of matches :)
