For Disney that is cheap. I would have figured it would cost $500 at least.

Well I was going to say that the stormtroopers were "conscripted soldiers" but I was on the phone at the time and I can't type on a phone for shiat so I abbreviated it. Honestly, I don't know how you kids type on that shiat.

The evidence being that Lucas went back and changed Boba Fett's voice to that of Jango Fett because he was a clone but he didn't change the voices of the stormtroopers in ANH who had different voices.

...after that post, even though I'm skinny and have hair, I feel the need to add this.

You didn't, and you were never supposed to.
Stormtroopers represented the faceless oppression of authority. Stripped of their individuality to make them both scary and inhuman (and to turn them into disposable mooks, avoiding prickly moral questions).
Making them take off the mask would destroy that carefully crafted image.

/Off the top of my head I can only think of one line from a trooper that wasn't part of a "yes sir" or "get them!".

Can you choose where you face is 3d printed on the figurine?  I would pay to have a personalized chest burst stormtrooper.

Storm troopers mostly came from the clone army. So while many (most?) storm troopers ARE clones not all of them are other people were added to their ranks.

Which "Aren't you short for a storm trooper?" line is a funnier joke since most stormtroopers are the same height because they are clones.

Your nerdfoo is weak.

The Imperial stormtroopers were the evolution of the clone troopers of the Grand Army of the Republic. By the end of the Clone Wars in 19 BBY, the Galactic Republic was reorganized into the first Galactic Empire. As a result, the Grand Army was reformed into the Stormtrooper Corps and the clones were renamed "stormtroopers."

Let's see, what do I go with, bullshiat EU or Lucas himself, who could have changed the stormtroopers separate voices but didn't? And even in the EU, wasn't Solo a stormtrooper?

Expanded Universe?  WTF are you talking about... this is what the 3 new movies were entirely about.  You know, the ones that were painfully written and directed by Lucas himself,  unlike the originals.

There was nothing in the films that said the clone troopers, who were biological batteledroids, are the same as the stormtroopers from the original trilogy who stood around bullshiatting about "the new T-38's" and spoke in different voices.

George wrote the entire 1-9 storyline at one time, then picked what he thought was the most exciting part to do his first movie on.  Any nerd knows that.

Yes, he consolidated the third trilogy into Jedi, what does that have to do with anything?

I figured that's what you were going for, and by clarifying I'd like to add a footnote that the 501 unit, Vader's Fist, is the only stormtrooper unit left composed of clones. Unless something else changed in the EU lately.

Everything written up to attack of the clones indicates that the storm troopers by the time of ANH were normal human beings (no aliens allowed) who were conscripts or volunteers. Wookiepedia states outright that the clones were a minority force by that time. It also neatly answers the question of why Obi Wan said that only stormtroopers could be so precise: the last time he saw a stormtrooper it was a horde of Commander Cody types.

Point of order: were there ever clones in the Imperial Navy? I'd hate for the Chronicle of Stele to be nothing but lies.

A 7.5 inch figure? Why would they choose a size that doesn't match the scale of any line of Star Wars figures? I think most collectors would want a 3.75" or 12" figure to match the rest of their collection.

2013-05-16 12:41:03 AM
Lucas himself said that the Stormtroopers by ANH time were mostly recruited humans, not clones. There were a few original clones left (like Vader's Fist), and they padded the ranks with new clones, but there were also plenty of normal people who became Stormtroopers.

He even said that a lot of the clones in the ranks by that time were the clones of wealthy, high-ranking Imperials who wanted to gain some glory by "volunteering" without putting themselves at risk. Lucas said this explained why Stormtroopers in the Rebellion era weren't the crack troops they should have been. By the time of ANH, all the major fighting was over and Stormtroopers had become a "show force" that looked intimidating but didn't see much actual battle anymore. They didn't need to. When the Empire wanted to get a planet in-line, they just parked a few Star Destroyers around the planet and began orbital bombardment (what Star Destroyers were built for.)  After destroying a couple cities, the people would give up pretty quickly, and ground troops were never really needed for anything other than basic peace-keeping and clean-up.

I forget when or where he said this, but I'd call it a good theory.

This could be fun for pranking your kids into believing from an early age that the Star Wars films are badly-made documentaries. You could allege that the action figure depicts their great-to-the-nth grandfather, whom of course he and you resemble, biatch constantly about George Lucas raping your family's heritage for profit and generally behave the way religious people do when they feel the need to be butthurt. Insist they read passages from your favorite 'Star Wars' novels and fanfics and apply the lessons to their lives for awhile, even. Worst-case scenario, they come off as a bit nerdy until they're old enough for school.

Along about the time your kid will be vulnerable to religious brainwashing, from any faith, you can then reveal that 'Star Wars' is just a movie, which should then train him to think very critically when told anything whatsoever about hokey old religions beyond what few philosophically valid points stand on their own without any miracles or gobbledegook.

/and yes, my wacky atheist uncle had four-year-old me absolutely convinced that our family had immigrated from the kingdom of Florin and that we were among the many descendants of Valerie and Miracle Max from 'The Princess Bride.'
//I believed this for years.
