Not to worry. Moffat already put this issue of only having 12 regenerations to rest!! To paraphrase: Don't worry we'll do what we always do, we'll make something up.

I'll go along with John Hurt's Doctor regenerating into Eccleston during or immediately after the Time War. I'm okay with that. I'm NOT okay with not getting to see how or why it happened. Give me a special or something.

I'd love to see Paul McGann again.  He's had a pretty prolific run in the books and comics.

Eccleston only could put up with it for one year and he told 'em to go to hell on the 50th Anniversary special. You think he'd come back for one off special?

I don't see that happening.

Actually, I wouldn't mind seeing an older Doctor after Matt Smith.

And considering that Smith's Doctor is an old man in a young one's body, it'd be fun to see a young man in an old man's body.

Hey, psst...I don't think he meant it. I think Moffatt was farking with fanwank theories and future casting of the Doctor by saying that, no, there was a Doctor in between 8 and 9.

He was only contracted for one series and he was pretty pissed off by how BBC treated him and the cast. So he said fark it and didn't renew.

Is it a spoiler if you can find out by just checking IMDB?

Sure.  If it is show info that hasn't aired yet, in a show with tons of mysteries and possible spoilers, it still is one.

What's next, someone posts the actual name of the Doctor from those early released DVDs and Fark insta-greens it?

/I'm betting John Hurt will play the 8th Doctor, much older, who regenerates into Eccleston.  So Ecc is still the 9th.

That's exactly what it was James.

They hired him for one year because they weren't sure if the show would be back.   So, of course he lined up other work for after.   Once his tenet was up he wanted to return but already had other commitments.

Not according to Eccleston:

I left Doctor Who because I could not get along with the senior people. I left because of politics. I did not see eye to eye with them. I didn't agree with the way things were being run. I didn't like the culture that had grown up around the series....
I thought to remain, which would have made me a lot of money and given me huge visibility. The price I would have had to pay was to eat a lot of sh*t. I'm not being funny about that. I didn't want to do that and, it comes to the art of it, in a way.... We are vulnerable as actors and we are constantly humiliating ourselves auditioning. But if you allow that to go on on a grand scale., you will lose whatever it is about you, and it will be present in your work....
You've got to have standards, no matter how hard work that is.... It's easy to find a job when you've got no morals, you've got nothing to be compromised....
I'm sure they were glad to see the back of me. The important thing is that I succeeded. It was a great part. I loved playing [the Doctor]. I loved connecting with that audience. Because I've always acted for adults and then suddenly, you're acting for children. Who are far more tasteful, they will not be bullshiatted

Anyone surprised?

Both RTD and Moffat have a healthy contempt for their audiences. After all, if I know if I can shiat on a plate and you'll eat it, won't I shiat? And won't you keep watching? And won't you keep writing contemptible fan fiction?

I don't see Moffet ever spoiling things on his own. He's always seemed pretty pissed off when things got spoiled before. So my money's on this being a lot more complicated than he's said, or he's outright lying to fark with people.

I suppose you should stay away from the internet then.  Besides this is still just a rumor.  Even IMDB could be going off what is possibly a lie.

My plan is, as always, to let Moffatt say whatever the hell he wants. Until something actually airs, I don't believe a word of it.

And even AFTER it airs, I wait to see how it'll play out in the future.

Given that the fans are, by and large, contemptible, it's not unreasonable.

Yeah.  Both sides screwed the pooch on that one, and you really can't blame anyone.  When they began filming, and even with the long and wonderful history of the show, I don't think anyone could have predicted that the reboot (or whatever we call it) would be anywhere near as successful as it was.  Naturally, BBC execs just prepared for the worst as the execs always do, and they were probably caught a little off-guard when it turned out to be popular enough for a second series.

oh yes. Completely. However it would be nice if they at least tried to tie it back to something that would work in the world they are dealing with.

At least say that River gave him a couple of regens when she saved him.

When you take that in with Cushing's Who, there have been 14 versions of the Doctor.

In addition to that, there are these possibilities:

1. The Time Lords fighting in the Time War were all given a new set of regenerations to help them survive the war better, same as the deal offered to the Master.

2. Absorbing the energy of the Time Vortex in The Parting of the Ways reset the Doctor's regeneration cycle, so Nine is really the 1st incarnation of the new cycle.

Also, I'm curious if Ten "fixing" himself in Journey's End used up a regeneration. That was never really made clear, so if you add in an missing Ninth Doctor, then Tennant/Smith was could really be the 12th regeneration.

Make sure to catch McGann's work in the Big Finish audio productions. He makes an excellent doctor. Quite sarcastic.

Actually, there was. The Shalka Doctor.

And with that coming out on DVD soon, it wouldn't shock me if the Shalka Doctor was brought back into canon.

So, John Hurt as a live action Shalka Doctor? Wouldn't surprise me.

See, that's why I ignored it.

If they're doing that, why not make Rowan Atkinson 9, Richard E. Grant 10, Jim Broadbent 11, Hugh Grant 11, Joana Lumley 12, Eccleston 13, etc?

I also heard Shakla wasn't very good.

Also wonder if Hurt is actually a regeneration of the Doctor, or like the Valeyard, a possible version of the Doctor that never comes to pass.
