Mugato: RexTalionis: According to a strict interpretation of the Book of Deuteronomy, Harold Camping should be put to death.

He hollowed out his Bible as a place to store his flask a long time ago.

Salvation really did lie within.

"Sufficient funds were in the bank and, thankfully, we didn't spend everything," he said, referring to the May 2011 prediction. "But it did force us to make quick changes."

Who would've thought that having your donor base quit their jobs and spend all their savings based on an impossible prediction would have some negative consequences?

born_yesterday: cwolf20: born_yesterday: cwolf20: MrBallou: FTFA: "They also set up a website called wecanknow.com"

What happened is this: The bible explicitly states that you cannot know the time of the second coming. These guys actually got it right. If God had left it like that, he would have looked like an idiot, because they figured out his secret plan.

So He just changed the date. Psych!

So voila.  Keep guessing the date correctly, and the date keeps being pushed back

Your donations are what will bring about God's heavenly glory!!!  You just haven't given enough!!!

/hallelujah, you farking rubes

I donated?

It was the royal "you", not you personally.  Sorry if you thought I was calling you a rube.  I'm so sorry, I'm going to give you a unique opportunity to help out this Nigerian prince friend of mine...

RexTalionis: According to a strict interpretation of the Book of Deuteronomy, Harold Camping should be put to death.

20 But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, is to be put to death."

21 You may say to yourselves, "How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the Lord?" 22 If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true, that is a message the Lord has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously, so do not be alarmed.
Deuteronomy 18:20-22

So Jesus should be put to death as well? His Apostles made it clear they felt that the end of the world would arrive in their lifetime.

I tihink one of his billboards is still on I-95 in north Florida, near Jacksonville and the Georgia border.  Kind of funny seeing it still there, almost two years later.

I spent that day in May dressed up as Jesus and wandering around local malls.

Strangely, when you're dressed up as Jesus, you get significantly better service at many stores.  Of course, it's possible that they just wanted me out of there...

I'd rather see him be forced to repay all the people he defrauded.  But that ain't happening.

I almost feel sorry for those rubes.  Almost.

Yeah, I don't at all.  These people want the end of the world.  They think they are "chosen" and the rest of us can go to hell.  Not that I believe in any of that nonsense...

I don't think they wanted the world to end, rather they believed that it would end and wanted to do the right thing. But WTF do I know. The entire thing is laughably insane. Anyone who believed him is obviously an idiot of the highest order.

I like the idea of putting him to death based on scripture. I think that's a win for everyone.

And will be wrong. AGAIN.

I'm thinking, maybe the Rapture did take place, and no one was lifted up. Or some people were taken, but they were so isolated and hidden from everyone else no one knows they're gone, and we are all in the end times now.

I pity the fools that listen to these phony prophets.  My cousin married a guy who was part of the Unarian [I think] group, they used to go out into the desert where their prophet told them space ships would come and take them away to a new planet.  I'm told the wedding was...unusual.  Something about a phallic symbol.  I'm sorry I missed it.  Crazy...she's over it now, but the only difference between her and her sister the strict Southern Baptist is that the SB sister spent 20 years as a missionary in central america.  She's nuts but at least she puts her heart into it.

This wasn't Harold Camping's first incorrect "prediction" of the date, so if he were younger and in better health, that's almost certainly the tack they'd take. Another date would be predicted, and more fools parted with their money.

I thought they used the excuse "It DID happen.  I mean, the BEGINNING of the world happened, just like we predicted" already.

I did check out that website to see how he could explain away that well known Bible verse.

He said it only applied to the "church age" and since that ended, then setting the date via his brand of numerology was just fine.

Harold Camping has a degree as a Civil Engineer and owns a construction company, his expertise in the Bible is based on his own self-study. He holds no degrees in theology.

Well, if it's Old Testament, than it's before Christianity, so it's nothing Christ said to do.
