Loved the show just for that. It's also why it probably failed. If you didn't start watching from the beginning, you were missing half the jokes.

The best thing I ever did with our software engineering suite in 1990 was develop an ERD for Twin Peaks characters.

Had to use a lot of custom link types - Parent/child was easy. But then I also had
Married to
Sleeping with
Works with
Sees in dreams

Some really Leland and Laura were connected by 3 links...

Speaking of Archer, AD had better have an Archer reference in it somewhere.

Best bet would be "Phrasing", but I hope they are more subtle then that.

I'm torn... on the one hand, I don't want the new season to be nothing but running gags and references to the previous shows.  On the other hand, that's pretty much what the show is.

This thread bores me, Farkers.  At least in prison we'd have movie nights and knife fights, sometimes on the same night.  Those men did not like "Soap Dish."

My son has major boners for this series. I've seen a couple of episodes; funny, but nothing to write home about.

While I thought the show was funny to begin with, it was only with DVD and now Netflix, where you can binge watch, that it reaches 'classic status'.  The multiple interruptions during the original broadcasting did no favors for the running jokes and that is the best part of the show, IMHO.

For those who have only caught a couple episodes here and there, I recommend watching 3-4 at a time.  You will get the full effect of the jokes then because this show did a great job setting up a joke in one episode, and paying it off a couple episodes later.

Wow...how does he have multiple simultaneous boners?   Please tell me; the information could help me achieve my dream of having sex with all of the Spice Girls...at once.

Unfortunately, my work computer is still on IE8 so I'll have to check it when I get home, unless there's a compatible version posted on Bob Loblaw's Law Blog.

Well no. Like Community (seasons 1-3) part of the appeal is that it overlays references to the past while slowly introducing new gags. The pacing of introducing new (or variations) themes along with folding in old ones was perfect -- and interesting to study as well since it resembles the repetition patterns necessary for learning.

If they rest on their laurels like Community season 4 and simply rehash their older stuff without introducing new ideas as well (or if those new ideas suck) then it'll be a huge disappointment. But to say the entire show is just about referencing previous shows....that's wholely incorrect.

AD like MST3K is one of those shows you either think is gut bustingly funny or as funny as watching dust collect. Im in the first group.

When I see a Arrested Development thread with the haters im always reminded of the Famous Joel Hodgson quote " We dont worry about who will get this, the right people will get this "

Hmm, no lessons from a one-armed man. However, as long as they have the Cornballer and the Chicken Dance, I'm happy.

Just finish the dialog by switching scenes a few times.

Were they just random episodes? In my case I only caught a couple episodes when it originally aired and had the same opinion. Then years later I saw a DVD set of one of the seasons on sale for like $10 and figured what the hell and got it. I watched them in order and fell in love, and quickly bought the other seasons. I've rewatched them 3 or 4 times and still caught jokes I had missed before.
