I love the Bulls, but they're going down tonight.

Tonight Bulls game would be more entertaining if they sped up the video, and just played Yakkety Sax in the background.

Sadly I'm afraid you're right. They just don't have enough left to mount a serious challenge.

Such a bummer.  Such, such a bummer.

2013-05-15 02:05:43 PM
Deng isn't even in Miami. Hinrich is likely out.

You simply can't have have two of your starters out for 2 weeks and hope to advance. Especially against this stupid Heat team.

Sigh. Go Bulls.

It will be great when Miami stops playing exhibition games and enters the 2013 NBA playoffs.

2013-05-15 03:51:07 PM
Remember how a week ago the Bulls had the blueprint to beat Miami? I guess they shouldn't have lost that blueprint.

/or they probably can't just expect to be allowed to foul as much as possible, that Miami will miss almost all of its open shots, AND Nate Robinson will make everything that he throws in the direction of the hoop every single game.

They have nothing to be ashamed of, they did more than anybody expected this season without Rose, and way more than people expected in the playoffs without Deng and Hindrich.

2013-05-15 07:09:28 PM
Yeah, this Bulls team had to catch lightning in a bottle to win a single game. It just happened to be the first game, so everyone overreacted. The Pacers are a legit threat to take two games, but only the Grizzlies can actually pose a real threat to the Heat machine.

I don't hate the Heat. I have a lot of respect for how LeBron has continued to work on his game even after becoming the top dog. I'm just disappointed that the Bulls were to injured to put up a real fight.

Why did LeBron foul Nate? Now the Bulls have a chance to get back in this.

I thought this game started at seven, it looks like Miami is still running through some drills and the Bulls haven't taken the court yet. Did I misread the schedule?

I have no problem with the vote. That was fully expected. David Stern is the most unprofessional piece of sh*t in the business of sports. He cannot waste a single opportunity to get in front of a mic and smugly shiat on Seattle. How do you think it's even remotely acceptable or necessary to mention Oklahoma City while announcing that Seattle will not be getting the Kings, let alone open the f*cking press conference with it?

I think the Spurs are the ones who could absorb Miami, but they might be one year too old. Had they not blown it against OKC, they might have been able to take the Heat (by pressuring LBJ to choke since he hadn't won the big one then).

Now, I'm not sure. They have the advantage that they work the refs about even so no need to worry about a controversy game turning the tide. Still, they'd need an average series from LBJ (no super-James) and Duncan would basically need to do a Last Ride series with a 25-15 set. Doable, just unlikely.

Memphis doesn't have the starpower to matchup, they'd be interesting and can beat the Spurs, but they'd be done in 5 against Miami

Yeah but I'll still hate them as long as that cocksucker Wade is on the team. Plus they were acting like d bags in 2011 and they mocked Dirk so that kept the hate going in a big way.

OK, I can see Miami winning. But not in five. Miami doesn't match up well at all. Who guards Gasol? Anderson? Who guards Randolph? Bosh? If Wade can't score against the corpses of the Bulls, how the hell can he score when he's being guarded by Tony Allen?

Yeah, I did really like that team. Shame they let Chandler go to take a run at the D-bag that is D-Howard.

At least I think that's what happened, my memory is fuzzy on why they did that.

2013-05-15 08:35:54 PM
Why is Butler so good?!

2013-05-15 08:36:58 PM
Wade basically piledrived Noah into the rim support there.

2013-05-15 08:37:47 PM
What did they T up Boozer for? Way not to show it!

2013-05-15 08:38:02 PM
Like 8 offensive boards, Chicago by 9.

2013-05-15 08:38:30 PM

ghall3: TheJoe03: ghall3: TheJoe03: Yeah but I'll still hate them as long as that cocksucker Wade is on the team. Plus they were acting like d bags in 2011 and they mocked Dirk so that kept the hate going in a big way.

Oh yeah I forgot about the flu thing they did. However, that made it much more satisfying to me when the Mavs won though, not a Mavs fan myself but that was pretty sweet.

They wanted a younger franchise guy to eventually replace Dirk, they whiffed on Deron Williams and they have deluded themselves into thinking CP3 or Howard will come to Dallas this summer. I hope to god we don't get Howard, I can't stand that schmuck.

2013-05-15 08:38:42 PM
I didn't see a T there...

For not sucking for the first time this series?

Watching that last possession on TNT OT with the backboard cam was pretty awesome.

He kinda looks like jamie fox in those movie trailer commercials

CP3 would be a good fit, at least for the last few years of Dirk.....Howard, he just seems way to immature and not interested in getting better. I know he was recovering from a back injury this year but NOTHING I saw made it seem like he was worth giving a max contract.

/As a Sixers fan, don't get me started on Bynum as well

2013-05-15 08:41:19 PM
LeBron isn't going to let this series go to 6.

Jimmy BUCKETS

2013-05-15 08:42:24 PM
That was a lazy, frustration foul by Noah.

2013-05-15 08:42:47 PM
Miami will make the comeback as they try to even the fouls back out. Miami had been up 17-10 in fouls called against until that, mostly to help them get back in the game earlier.

2013-05-15 08:42:53 PM
Boozer beat Haslam like a redheaded rented mule.

2013-05-15 08:44:20 PM
Maybe Bosh should ask to shoot his FTs from beyond the arc.

2013-05-15 08:44:39 PM
CP3 is one of my favorite players, I'd be ecstatic if he signed, but no way he leaves la la land. Howard, on the other hand, is a team killer who is incredibly overrated. As for Bynum, that really sucked, based on last year I thought the Sixers would get better and at least be then 7 or 8 seed.

2013-05-15 08:45:17 PM
Not sure I would want to be in a tie-up/scrum with the Bulls in this state of mind....lol

2013-05-15 08:45:17 PM
Jump ball between Haslem, Bosh, and Butler?

Bosh and Haslem with 4.

2013-05-15 08:49:25 PM

Not good for the Heat, fouls seem inconsistent this game...well all playoffs, so what else is new I guess but still

Haslem trying to get himself T'd up.

2013-05-15 08:50:25 PM
Y'know if Battier is going to get abused on defense and not make 3s, there are lots of guys on the bench that can at least make the 3s.

/yay eastern conference ball, we'll intentionally foul you at half-court just so we can catch up on defense!

2013-05-15 08:51:00 PM
68-63 Chicago, 2:43 3rd

2 ticks on the shot clock for the Bulls.

Whew, really expected the typical Heat surge to start the 3rd, didn't happen thankfully.

2013-05-15 08:51:03 PM
Heat energy level seems really low. Wonder if they can ramp it up in the 4th.

Worked out in the Bulls' favor that time, no points on that possession.

Yeah, I'm not really sure what the refs are calling from possession to possession here, but we'll see what the 4th brings.

It does virtually every time. Which is why it's horsesh*t. F*cking play basketball - basketball isn't about intentional fouls every time you turn the ball over because there's no punishment for doing so.

Not sure what the cause is, long layoffs, conspiracy, bad refs...but there are just too many games with terrible flow that I attribute to the refs in the first few rounds.

Hockey doesn't seem to have this problem...so maybe it is the layoffs

2013-05-15 08:54:25 PM

Palmer Eldritch: TheManofPA: Memphis doesn't have the starpower to matchup, they'd be interesting and can beat the Spurs, but they'd be done in 5 against Miami

OK, I can see Miami winning. But not in five. Miami doesn't match up well at all. Who guards Gasol? Anderson? Who guards Randolph? Bosh? If Wade can't score against the corpses of the Bulls, how the hell can he score when he's being guarded by Tony Allen?

More of a gut feeling that they have 1 close one, 1 blow out at home; they take 1 of 2 in Memphis and then close it out at home.

I still feel evil because when the Heat were down to Boston 3-2, I said how they were going to win the final in 5...it just felt like Cleveland hadn't been kicked in the balls in about 6 months

2013-05-15 08:54:59 PM
Rip for 3, it's Chicago +10

2013-05-15 08:55:37 PM

In general, NBA refs get too swayed by home crowds in the playoffs, but then have an inexplicably called game where they will either call nothing or everything (which can screw a certain style of team not expecting it).

Then you have the 3 refs who only want us to talk about them and then the certain set with biases against certain players/coaches. It's hard to find a rhythm because you don't know who you will run into

Nuggets fan here. Iggy is a nice player, but you don't want to tie up that much of your cap space in a perimeter guy with such inconsistent offense, IMO. In the long run, the 6ers might regret more what they gave up to the Magic.

2013-05-15 08:57:24 PM

ghall3: Hockey doesn't seem to have this problem...so maybe it is the layoffs

Hockey doesn't have as many fouls to call.

Heat missing threes, missing FTs...

Wait. What happened? Awesome.

2013-05-15 09:01:02 PM

robsul82: Wade to the locker room, so says Kerr.

Good. Kinda tired of watching a whole half a quarter go by without LeBron touching the ball on offense. Though if he wants to keep being lazy and staying outside and shooting jump shots, I'm not sure that's the worst thing to keep it away from him.

2013-05-15 09:01:02 PM
Damn didn't know that Robinson played running back at Washington

2013-05-15 09:01:09 PM
77-69 Chicago, 12:00 4th

All right, Bulls.  Don't get outscored by 8 or more, and Game 6 awaits back home.

Let's goooooooo

Does hockey use the same refs all series? I wonder if the NBA did that you'd see more flow as players get used to what they can and can't get away with.

2013-05-15 09:01:57 PM
I'd love a miracle series win by Chicago. But I'd be happy if the Bulls just extend the series.

Yeah, I agree the Sixers overpaid AI2, he was a very very good player, but you aren't going anywhere if he is your best player.

As great as V.....however you spell it was this year for the Magic, I still think the trade was worth the risk. You need a certified franchise player to win a championship, Bynum had that potential. Now I don't think he does so I really hope they don't try to sign him.

It's more the inconsistent play, every other day is the most these guys are used to, randomly stopping series for 2-3 days at a time has to throw them off a bit, which throws off the flow of the game. I don't recall any NHL series having more than one day off between games

2013-05-15 09:08:17 PM
77-74 Chicago, 10:00 4th

Well, let's calm down that run.

2013-05-15 09:08:48 PM
For some reason that play reminded me of FGCU. Good times

Again, virtually every game has been played with one day's rest between. There was one game in each series that has been played with two days off.

I agree about game 1s, it still feels disjointed from what the regular season is.

however it happenes, the flow in the playoffs often is screwed up, particularly with how the games are called by the refs

2013-05-15 09:12:04 PM

That was a botch on my end, completely forgot. Game 5 in Memphis might be hard after they take 4. If I was betting, I'd still do 5 games, but less confident.

I might want to see that "This is the End". It has a Most Extraordinary Space Explorations vibe to it

2013-05-15 09:12:34 PM
Faaark, of course Battier gets hot now.

2013-05-15 09:12:39 PM

2013-05-15 09:13:18 PM
It was subtle, but they did replace Battier with good Battier, who can make threes. Much better.

Fouled on a 3, come on Taj.

Wow. That was a special star call right there.

2013-05-15 09:16:40 PM
I just have this question: If talking to Ray Allen improved his FT shooting, and it only took a quick suggestion, why the f*ck not do that at the beginning of the year?

Now That's What I Call a Taco!: Wow. That was a special star call right there.

The worst thing about the NBA and it has been that way since forever.

2013-05-15 09:17:20 PM
That should have been a flagrant on Nate Robinson.

2013-05-15 09:17:21 PM
How is that not a foul on Wade?

2013-05-15 09:17:37 PM
of all the times for a cold shooting spell. and here comes a flagrant too

little 5 foot nothing nate playing backyard rules

When the guy comes down and hits your hand as you shoot? No, that's how basketball works. Hit him before he went up, too.

/they're reviewing whether it was clear path, not flagrant, weirdos.

cameroncrazy1984: How is that not a foul on Wade?

Because... Wade?

2013-05-15 09:18:29 PM
Flagrant on Nate.

2013-05-15 09:18:51 PM
Hmmmmm that's a flagrant? They've been doing that horsesh*t all series.

2013-05-15 09:18:54 PM
I finally figured out who Nate Robinson looks like. He looks like a short, strong Mos Def.

Like, if Mos Def were playing Mike Tyson in a movie.

2013-05-15 09:18:58 PM

robsul82: Flagrant on Nate.

That would be my call

2013-05-15 09:19:11 PM

Doogled: That should have been a flagrant on Nate Robinson.

No. He made a basketball move to get his hands up to block the pass, the only problem is that Nate is close to 2 feet shorter than James so his hands ended up in his face.

2013-05-15 09:19:13 PM
That flopping bs LeBron does is part of why I find it hard to like the guy. He's too strong to be acting like that, it bugs me.

2013-05-15 09:19:40 PM
And people say that Lebron isn't a great actor.

2013-05-15 09:19:59 PM
Great hair on the security guard.

2013-05-15 09:20:06 PM
It's kinda obnoxious calling everything a dramatization. If there's a hand coming for your face, you're probably moving your head back naturally. And when you put it in slo-mo, it looks ridiculous.

I only saw it in real time from the stupid TNT OT backboard cam.  From there, it looked pretty bad.

/No replays on TNT OT either

TheJoe03: That flopping bs LeBron does is part of why I find it hard to like the guy. He's too strong to be acting like that, it bugs me.

Again, at full speed we'll have someone push their hand toward your face while you're running and we'll see if your head snaps back before there's contact. I'm gonna bet you don't just ignore it and try to get hit in the face.

2013-05-15 09:21:44 PM
wow I thought that would be a flagrant. still a flagrant against little Nate on Lebron would have been a little funny.

2013-05-15 09:21:51 PM
Everybody is going to end with 5 fouls

2013-05-15 09:22:27 PM
84-83 Miami, 5:50 4th

Gotta stop THAT shiat, Chicago, fark.

2013-05-15 09:22:46 PM
And on the 3rd day, Mario Chalmers created Norris Cole. And he was good.

So, I've not followed the Heat. Has that Anderson always been sporting the Magua do?

2013-05-15 09:23:19 PM
Shouldn't have been a flagrant. Should've been a clear path foul since the ball was out and Cole had a clear path (and was behind everyone). F*ck this chickensh*t neutral zone trap horsesh*t. This isn't f*cking hockey. Play some goddamn basketball.

He's had it since his Denver days.

I saw the play, it looked like a flop. I get your point but I don't think that's why he jerked his head back like that, he didn't even make contact to his actual face, it looked like he was selling the foul.

Like I said, it looked a lot worse because Nate is a lot shorter than James. So when he puts his hands up to get them in the passing lane they come up to his head. If they were around the same height there would be discussion on whether or not it was a player control foul on Lebron

2013-05-15 09:31:19 PM
Farking ugh.

2013-05-15 09:31:50 PM

For Mario Chalmers so loved the world, he gave his Crunch Time Minutes to his one and only Backup, that The Heat may use Him as their point guard and shall not perish but have eternal playoff games.

Ummmm no. He ran up and intentionally fouled him. Again, I'm saying it clearly WASN'T a flagrant. But it was an intentional foul and it broke up a play that was already a clear path play and should have been ruled as such to prevent this BS that the Bulls have done all series. There's nothing fun about watching a play develop only to have someone intentionally foul with no effort to play defense in order to break up the play.

I_C_Weener: Dammit Chicago. See if I ever cheer for a Windy City team again.

Why? They are down 3 major players, playing with guys that wouldn't normally see any PT and they played them competitively. Beating Brooklyn was amazing. Beating Miami would have been a miracle.

James was caught in the air and had to make a pass, he ran up to try to get in position to get a charge and to get his hands in the passing lane. And like I said, his hands don't go in the passing lane because of his height.

Backup central? Most of the guys they had on the floor are the guys who normally sit at the end of the bench wearing their street clothes under their warmups.

But seriously, all of those backups just got themselves a huge pay bump for next season if they are in a contract year.

Calves are super important in basketball. I've been dealing with some calf issues lately and it's ridiculous. The feeling of helplessness you get when you jump into the air... and your calf immediately cramps up the second you leave the ground... and then you realize that you're going to be landing in about 1.5 seconds... not fun. With Deng, the Bulls could have pushed the series to 7 because with him in the game the Heat would have been a lot less effect offensively in the paint, and he would have provided the Bull's offense with a much needed presence in the paint.

Good point, missing Deng at that swing position really hurt the Bulls.  Butler, Noah, and Gibson are great, but they can only do so much for a team that fields Robinson, Boozer and Belinelli.

Defensive Efficiency:

1. Indiana
2. Memphis
3. San Antonio/Oklahoma City
5. Chicago
7. Miami

If the teams that are leading close out their series, Miami will have the worst defense remaining in the playoffs. And they'll have to have gone through No. 5, No. 1, and either No. 2 or No. 3 defenses to get there.

Without Deng they really become a perimeter and fast break scoring team, and lose a lot of presence in the paint on defense.

Regular season - let's not act like they had many issues with their defense in the postseason outside of a couple of games. And people are way overstating Deng's impact. Butler basically gave them everything he would've (except Butler would've had more rest and maybe they bench Belinelli more).

I think you're underestimating Deng's importance. He would have given them a boost on both sides of the floor and their rotation would have been much less goofy. It is good in the long term Butler got that playing time, so the Bulls have that one positive to take away, plus beating the Nets was impressive.

IAmRight: TheMexicansLoveMe: Is that from the regular season or playoffs so far?  I think considering some of the injuries it's not really fair use that metric for the Bulls.

Regular season - let's not act like they had many issues with their defense in the postseason outside of a couple of games. And people are way overstating Deng's impact. Butler basically gave them everything he would've (except Butler would've had more rest and maybe they bench Belinelli more).

Uhh Deng shuts Lebron down just about every time they play. He makes Lebron a non factor in the games. Plus he gives them that in the paint scoring. Without him they become a perimeter shooting team.

Oh definitely the Heat have had some defensive issues so far.  Their lack of size in the front court really hurts them in the defense and rebounding department at times.  Now that I am looking a little more into the metrics it seems like Indiana matches up really well against them, so we'll see.

Would you still consider San Antonio a small market after their success?

The way I look at it, a team may start off in a small market, but after they achieve the success a team like San Antonio has and has the money coming in from marketing and TV deals, they shouldn't really be considered small market anymore because they have gotten the attention of the world and now are popular in the largest market.

The Bulls made to the playoffs and were playing good without Rose. Hell they beat the Heat, and it wasn't even summer, without Rose. The difference between then and now was Deng. Deng is really their man in the paint. With Deng they are a horse, with Deng and Rose they are a horse with a knight on the back of it.

Maybe but they still can't totally matchup financially with big markets. I'm going to assume that a team like Dallas has a better local TV deal and they get more local money.

Uh why not? Their popularity translates into the sells of their apparel, especially world wide. From what i understand Spurs apparel is popular all over Europe, mainly because of Parker and Ginobali. The more shiat they can sell increases the amount they can charge to license their name to merchandise. That adds to their market value. Do you not think that the Yankees market value isn't tied to their popularity, and their popularity isn't tied to their success?

At this point, that rings mostly true.  Watching Curry and Thompson go nuts has been electric though.  The Spurs should and will win that series but man, it's like nobody told the Warriors that they aren't supposed to play that way in the NBA (although they have been playing that way in The City for a while now)

LeBron averaged 27 per game against the Bulls with Deng in the lineup and went:

11-15, 26 points, 12 reb, 7 ast
11-17, 32 points, 7 reb, 3 ast
7-12, 24 points, 7 reb, 6 ast

Let's not act like Deng was some type of LeBron-stopper. Their defense did a great job. And they would've had to have Robinson or Belinelli in at some point if they wanted to actually score ever.

In the sports world small market refers to their possible fanbase. For example, nobody would ever consider Green Bay small market. Originally that may have been the definition, but with TV and marketing now, that definition has changed.

That is why I said the Clippers. They are in a large market, but they have been for a long time ignored by by that market because of the other team making them a small market, because of their possible fanbase, team.

30 years ago you would be right, but now the word small market is just all semantics. Hell the Bulls were considered a small market team, then came Jordan.

Most valuable teams in the NBA:
1. NY Knicks
2. LA Lakers
3. Chicago Bulls
4. Boston Celtics
5. Dallas Mavericks
6. Miami Heat
7. Houston Rockets
8. Golden State Warriors
9. Brooklyn Nets
10. San Antonio Spurs

It appears market size has a definite impact on the value of a team. If the Knicks played ball in San Antonio that would probably be one of the poorest teams in the league since they've sucked pretty hard for a while. It just took them a couple winning seasons to become the richest team.

Though the Spurs can maybe get to Boston's level. Boston isn't a very big market compared to the other teams in the list (neither is Miami, but they're making cash because of LeBron) but their history gives them fans around the country and world.

The NBA's officials and fouling situation is by far the biggest issue in the sport, I wish they'd finally get around to doing it. Note sure what they can do, but someone in the thread was talking about having the same refs do entire series and maybe do some house cleaning with the refs.

The marketing is why you see so many more teams going after European players. You get a player from that market on your team, you open up a whole new market for your apparel, as long as that player is good.

There are a lot of old players that would be marketing gold if they played in today's NBA. All of those guys that came out of the old Yugoslavian national team, Detlef Schrmepf, and my favorite European player of all time,  Sarunas Marciulionis. If there was ever the big marketing push to Europe that the NBA has today those guys would have been some of the most wanted players in the NBA. Well maybe not
Sarunas Marciulionis, but that dude would make that behind the back pass right on the money after took the slowest drive to the hole you had ever seen in your life, and he could hit a shot from just about every place on the court.

Texas really representing there wow, been to san antonio a couple times, never imagined top ten, guess sea world helps a lot, doesnt explain orlando not being there though

I don't know why Durant is complaining about always being "second best."  He really should figure out how to use his incredible length and agility to be a defensive presence, then maybe people will start to try to compare him to LeBron.

I'm surprised at the pass the media has given Rose over refusing to play. He's not even saying he's not fully healed or he's still in pain. Just that he's not mentally ready, which is ridiculous. Hitting the exits early is always pretty lame.  There's a petty and malicious side of me that hopes that OKC abandons the Thunder completely when they aren't that great and don't have immediate potential.

I think not getting the ball right away might have thrown him off. Maybe he didn't know how much time or the situation due to the earlier confusion.

Now, can Duncan get past the demons of Memphis from 2 years ago and basically go out on top.

Yeah, randolph hit a game winning three from the elbow in that series, and duncan got knocked all over the place with him and ginobli coming off injuries, I think they have a chance, golden state would get murdered by memphis, so I hope for san antonio

Few things better then listening to the home teams radio while watching the game its amazing how biased they get, and usually funny

It would be a heck of a transition from small ball to half court defense, Blair usually gets some good minutes against randolph duncan will be giving his duncan face alot I am sure

Oh for sure.  Randolph has more trouble against shorter and more agile defenders than the rim defenders like Ibaka and Perk.

I like how barkley doesnt know anyones on the grizz name it seems, he it a close enough type person when it come to pronouncing things

continued note, Blair seems to me to be the most underutilized player, he always goes 100% attack on offense and D and plays with heart and is versatile

Agreed on Blair, I think he is probably I little over-matched against some opponents, but I'll be damned if he doesn't throw everything he has into every game he plays.

Yeah they did, and the really sad thing is that those guys really couldn't do a lot to be ambassadors to the world for players from that part of the world. Back when they were making their names in the NBA that part of the world was in the middle of war. All those guys from the old Yugoslavia team were all friends, but they were afraid to say anything about what was going on back there or even be seen talking to each other or even being seen being friendly to each other on the court out of fear what would happen to their families.

They say the best player to come from that team was Dražen Petrović, and he went out with his boots on.

Yes I saw the special, and I saw it all play out in Chicago. I was pointing out about how those guys were all teammates and friends until all that broke out, and after they couldn't talk to each other. In interviews after games if a reporter asked Toni Kukoc about Vlade Dvacs he would just walk away from them. I remember this stuff. I remember Vlade Dvacs asking reporters not to ask any of them about the conflict. I remember at the old Chicago Stadium in one corner of the 2nd balcony there would be a huge crowd with Croatian flags cheering on Kukoc and when there was a team with a Serbian player playing there would be a huge crowd on the other side of the stadium in the balcony with a Serbian flag cheering. It was a potentially volatile time in the NBA because they wanted players from that area, but they did handle it quietly.

In fact I think I'm going to watch that 30 for 30 again.

/Got it on my harddrive.

I was happy with the Bulls game.  I would have been happier if they won, but they really made Miami fight for it.  Considering the injuries, they really showed some strength wining the first game on the road, and then almost winning this one on the road.

I think Nate Robinson may now be my all-time favorite player.

Developed a lot of respect for the Heat too, even the circus freak Andersen.  That guy always seems to be in the right spot at the right time.
