Wow,  if there was one item of fashion that kids wear that *doesn't* annoy me, I'd say it's the glasses.

But nipple rings are still okay, right?

Officials at the Bobover Yeshiva B'Nei Zion school in Brooklyn have written to parents to say they're outlawing thick-framed retro glasses

You want to outlaw a style that was cool X years ago?

What hope do the kids wearing hand-me-downs have?

2013-05-15 12:50:08 AM
They give the kids appearances of hipster douche bags which justifies bullying. Occasionally, the schools are really thinking of the children.

Wouldn't this be solved by banning non-prescription eyeglasses instead?

Or are they forbidding parents from ordering the cheapest possible glasses for their kids?  If so that seems odd to me.

Ah, a douchetanium reinforced polymer. I was never a bully but I think those glasses do make a person look entirely punchable. I guess that just happens as you get older and trends and styles pass you by.

So, kids can't wear 50's and 60's style glasses in 2013. What did they do in the 50's and 60's, require them to wear pince nez from the turn of the century? I am all for private schools establishing a standard of dress if they feel it is necessary but this strikes me as being a bit absurd.

It's all about dreaming up things that you think would upset your particular imaginary sky-wizard.

It's no more stupid than those that ran Catholic schools thinking that their god didn't like girls wearing pants,

You apparently get get brownie points to heaven by accommodating your god's obsessive-compulsive disorders.

Damn.... I was wearing thick rimmed glasses way before they were cool...like back in the early 90s.

Now I wander around half blind.

I realized I was getting old when I couldn't tell one stupid trend from the other....

2013-05-15 06:12:20 AM
Given they're a standard style from the 1940s and 50s, and weren't seen then as a niche trend but just the mainstream of "what glasses look liked"... this doesn't make an awful lot of sense. It's the style worn by 1950s newsreaders.

They're not bizarre or unusual or disruptive, just suddenly popular with a slightly tiresome group.

2013-05-15 06:16:33 AM
I've thought of trying plastic rims, but now that I know they are hipster frames I guess I have to wait until they are uncool again.

It's Daily Fail. Half their articles are written by a computer, the other half by homeless people locked up in basement in exchange for sandwiches.

And seriously, they're just worried their boys will become unduly influenced by degenerate modernist rockers such as Buddy Holly and his love of such whores as Betty Lou and Peggy Sue.

Are you seriously suggesting they'd pay homeless people? They burn them as fuel to power their servers.

I guess I'm a hipster because I have glasses almost identical to his.

Though I find my vision with them is slower to transition clearly from far to near.  I liked my smaller glasses better but they got eaten by a dog.

At least those glasses have lenses in them.

Plastic-framed glasses/sunglasses are nice because it's hard to break them.

I had a more sarcastic comment prepared, but then I realized that it was the Mail, so no school in history has ever even considered banning wide-frame glasses, ever.

//"Makes them look course"?  When making up fake quotes for your fake story about fake educators, at least turn on your text editor's grammar spot-check to spot obvious wrong homonyms, dipshiat.

My dad was seriously against me wearing wire-rim glasses in the 70's, because they were all "hippy" and shiat.
Yet above our dinner table hung a portrait of his father, from 1915, with wire rim glasses just like the ones I wanted to wear.

/Hope I turned out more rational.

Do you also get angry when you see someone wearing a tie? What is the purpose of a tie? It's a bizarre affectation that has become culturally required.

Hell yes. Ties are ridiculous.

Yeah. But that tattoo dude likely gets all kinds of top-shelf poosay, for example the girl in that picture with him. The oblivious confidence not to care what people think is immensely attractive to certain women at certain ages. [Before they get older and find religion again and give up the fornicatin'.]

Can't we just let the farktards wear whatever they want?

It makes it so much more easier to identify them.

And as a teacher you can still come down on them in more opaque ways - give them lower grades than they derserve, but don't overdo it. Or you can question their development level in a meeting with their parents.
Harass them a little, just so you keep them out of the best schools - that way they are less likely to become influential.

It's for the greater good.

BCG's* are now cool?

*Birth Control Glasses. So named because when the navy was handing them out, if you were wearing them there was no way that you were getting laid. Even the married guys had to take them off if they wanted to have the sexy time with their wives.
