Taking a fairly Eric niche movie and turning it into a series usually sucks.

They better be taking notes on the good and bad of Walking Dead.

2013-05-14 08:26:04 PM
aren't there at least 3 vamp series right now/
True Blood (which I watch)
The Vamp Diaries (Which I don't)
and a 3rd which I don't rember and never watch

I guess FDtD will be survival horror drama hoping for The Walking Dead type success

There was a series of books compiled of short stories called Under the Fang
It was set in a post Vamp Apocalypse world
Read the first one, the stories were pretty good
Each was by a different author iirc. Shared world type project I think, but there was no interconnect in the book I read.

But I guess FDtD is probably better a known Brand

yeah.
It's probably what John Foed told Maureen O'Hara to whisper into John Wayne's ear at the last scene of "The Quiet Man"
/One can only presume.
//Bigger film geek than Tarantino.
///I'd still like to party with hm.

2013-05-14 09:23:08 PM
KING: Last scene of "The Quiet Man" Maureen's character whispers something in the ear of John Wayne's character. Whatever she said apparently shocked Wayne because his head jerked back and his eyes grows wide with disbelief. Wayne never told anyone what she said and John Ford the director never did either.
O'HARA: That was the deal. When John Ford said you are to say so and so To Wayne, I said, what? Me? No way. And he said, you're being ordered to do it. You do it. And I realized it was nothing I could do. When you try to battle with John Ford, you have to give in. And I said, well there's one stipulation. That you will never tell anybody what it is that you demanded that I say. And, John Wayne will never tell. And the three of us made the deal.
KING: So it was (UNINTELLIGIBLE) to what you are. One can imagine it was sexual or cursing or both?
O'HARA: Little bit of both.
KING: And Wayne did not know you were going to say it?
O'HARA: No. Didn't you see the look on his face when he turns around.
KING: That's one of the most famous endings of movies ever, right. So that must have been the question asked of you. That movie was such a big hit.
O'HARA: Everybody asks me. Even my lawyer in New York asked me the day before yesterday. I said I'm tired telling you, never. Duke is dead.
KING: Was it nervous for you to say it?
O'HARA: It was awful. I hated it.
KING: Did you only have to say it once?
O'HARA: Only once. Not twice. Well, you wouldn't get the reaction

Huh. For some reason I thought Tarantino directed the first part of it.

Meh.  The movie was a riot the first time I saw it, mostly because I hadn't been exposed to the "twist" and wasn't expecting the genre that it became.  That's really what made it good -- the surprise factor.

I'd be shocked if a television series could be interesting and entertaining enough to make it past a season or two, though.  I mean, hope for the best, but pretty much assume the worst.

Neither of those were really Vampire shows, they were kitchen-sink urban fantasy shows.  There's a big difference in the intensity of the focus on the one monster type, there were big chunks of various seasons where you didn't see any of the little buggers at all (well, with the exception of the title character in Angel).

True Blood and that WB one (I think Vampire Diaries) have their occasional monster of the week episodes but for the most part are 100% committed to twilighting the fark out of everything.

//Speaking of kitchen-sink urban fantasy, I'm still sad that Dresden Files didn't make it.

Hmmm. Just going by memory, but I think there was at least one vampire in every episode of Buffy and Angel (you'd have to count Angel for Angel)

MagSeven: Just going by memory, but I think there was at least one vampire in every episode of Buffy and Angel (you'd have to count Angel for Angel)

Nope.  The primary antagonists for most of Angel were Demons.  Season 4 of Buffy was almost entirely vampire-free, there was a short arc with Spike and Angel dropping in to remind the viewer they still existed, and apart from that you had a few segue appearances and that was about it.  Even season 1 was interspersed liberally with monster of the week episodes that made no mention of the vampires, and that was about a blood-sucky as any of the seasons got.

//Aware I'm a nerd for knowing this.

You're pretty much right. I got curious and went to IMDB. There are 8. I started second guessing myself as soon as I remembered that ventriloquist doll episode and whether or not Angel was in it.

*pulls IMDB tome off of shelf, blows off layer of dust.
AHEM!
There are just eight episodes in which no vampires appear. The episodes in which there's no vampire are: Witch, The Pack,   I, Robot... You, Jane,  The Puppet Show, Inca Mummy Girl, "Living Condition", "Fear, Itself"  and Beer Bad.

This could work, but it would need to be a show about survival. No glamorized, sexy, sympathetic vampires. Just evil bloodsuckers. And keep out other mystical creatures.

2013-05-15 01:29:15 PM
We have enough vampire shows. I'd rather see a show about the first half of the film. Maybe a prequel with the Gecko Bros traveling from town to town, getting into adventures, helping people, killing cops.

Natural Born Killers is worth it for the Rodney Dangerfield scenes alone. I saw it in the theater (on acid, no less) and bust out laughing at that part. Got me some really weird looks.
