Thank God the Orioles will not be stuck with Brian Roberts' $10 million dl payment after this year.

He's played a total of 59 games over the past 3 years.

Apologizing for what? Being solidly in first?
By and large, I don't see Yankee fans (on Fark at least) going "b-b-but injuries!" because we know damn well when you have a roster full of Methusulas that's part of the territory. Frankly we're damn surprised they're doing this well with the piecemeal team of has-beens, retreads and neverweres.

99.99% of all Yankees fans will wholeheartedly agree with this statement, myself included.

Is it that bad? I remember a few years back all the talk in Chicago about just needing to trade for Roberts to put the team over the edge. While they clearly failed hard since then anyhow - I guess they dodged a bullet?

Oh good, a Yankees thread, I'll finally get to ask my question.

Hey, Yankees fans, why the hell is it that you and the Jets fanbase are the only fans I've ever had to deal with live who consistently get drunk and try to fight everyone? Note that I've seen every Philadelphia team live, as well as the Steelers, Pirates and Red Sox.

Two games ahead of the Orioles, in May.....solidly?

Beating the Astros, Blue Jays, Royals, Mariners, Rockies and Red Sox?   Wow, some really solid teams there.

Let's face it, when the going gets tough, in other words, playing teams like Detroit and Texas, let's see how the "surprise" goes to the "b-b-b-b-b-but our disabled list."

1. Comparing Yankees fans to Jets fans is like comparing filet mignon to cat food.

2. Fight in what sense? Verbally or physically?

Maybe the Yankees fans you've encountered are the only ones who won't tolerate verbal abuse from local fans.  Although I'm sure you'll counter by saying that the Yankee fans were completely unprovoked and started every altercation.

Can't tell ya. YMMV.

Atlanta is a city of transplants with a -sizable- (if not the largest, though there's a ton of NOLAs here now) portion coming from NYC.
Yankees come into town every few years and every time The Ted is usually dominated by the Yankee fans (myself included). While a good chunk if not most of -those- tend to be poseurs, there's never been any incidence of belligerence here that I can recall.

Like I said, YMMV.

Calling out an entire fan base for a few idiotic fans shows how much you might know about sports. Last two Sox/Yank games I been to there were no fights. One loudmouth Boston chick who had 15 beers to many got ejected, but that's it.
True some of the fan base are jackasses, but *wait for it* every damn team I've watched has those classy fans who ruin it for everyone else - you have to think of the size of the fan base, Yankees / Sox have more fans - so there are a sizable number of jackasses on each side when you compare to teams like the Royals who have maybe 20 fans?

That would be interesting to see league-wide. I think the only guy the Yankees are paying to play elsewhere is AJ Burnett (could be mistaken).

Amazing to me that Miami has 10(!) disabled players, and is almost at the bottom of that list. I mean I know they have one of the lowest salaried rosters in the majors, but that's just ridiculous.

While I don't think they have a spot with every team on a single page, Cot's lists that on each team page.

So, yes, the Yankees are only paying AJ 8.5 mil this year, which is more than cancelled out by the 9.5 they're getting for Vernon Wells.

Off the top of my head, I can outline one incident where my buddy told a Yankees fan that he had pretty eyes and the guy proceeded to try and fight my friend, then move onto punching his own brother and an usher during an aisle fist fight.

There's also this past Monday where some fat Yankee greaseball had to be restrained after he started choking a guy in a Browns jacket against the left field railing, but I don't know the context. I'm sure he had a good reason.

It's cute how you try and make excuses for a guy who drunkenly assaulted strangers and his own family. This is why everyone thinks so highly of the Yankees "fan base".

I'm merely taking your biased view of the incident with a grain of salt.  I have no way of knowing what happened, nor do I have any reason to doubt there was a drunken Yankees fan throwing punches, I just have a hard time believing the entire timeline was exactly this:

Buddy: "You have pretty eyes".
Yankee fan:  "FARK YOU YOU FARKING FARK I'LL KILL YOU THEN EVERYONE IN MY FAMILY ARRRGHGHGHH!!!"

Similarly cute is how you pass your BS off as facts, and then use it to assassinate the character of an entire fan base.

The notion that Yankees fans, or fans of ANY team, have control over the actions of an individual is disturbingly stupid.

Fair enough, and given that version of events, the guy is obviously an idiot.

Although I typically try to leave drunken fans alone when I encounter them, nobody knows what they're capable of when being "f*cked with".

Once you "hate" something, you're biased against it. You hate that biatch for eating crackers like she owns the place.

How do you expect anyone to take you seriously?

We treat all visiting fans the same way and the worst reaction we've ever gotten from any other fanbase is being called dicks. I just find it curious why the folks from New York seem to instinctively start swinging.

I have no dog in the fight, but the bolded part of your post might have been the problem.

It's better (when your team is winning) to simply point to the scoreboard if you're going to attempt any sort of interaction with a Yankee fan that is visiting your ballpark. 2010 ALCS FTW.

You've got one incident as evidence for "instinctive" behavior.  I'm certain that at no point in the history of sports has there ever been a drunken Cleveland fan who got violent in a ballpark.  No sir.

And surely there has never been an entire stadium in Cleveland that has erupted into violent, bottle-throwing mob.  Nope, couldn't happen.
