This story illustrates perfectly what I've know about the very wealthy for a long time now.   The wealthy really are different from the rest of us.  They really believe that the universe revolves around them.  This kind of sick, childish behavior is common with this crowd and it hardly matters what nationality they are.

I'm always irritated by car-centric atricles that completely misstate the value of the car for the purposes of making the story seem more sensational. Nowhere in the world will you have to pay $430,000 for a Quattroporte.

I have no trouble believing that a few years old QP (which lose value faster than almost anything on the used car market), worth about $70,000 would sell for 430,000 Yuan. Since, you know, that's the approximate conversion.

Looks like he carefully limited it to windows and doors, maybe a dent or two on a fender.  Mostly repairable parts (and he might be able to slip gray market US or EU doors without the tax/markup).  Still not as good as having your volvo pulled through town by an ox.

You are right, I am not swimming in money and throwing around money in China if you have it, is a thing to do.  I don't really understand it.

Spending a lot of money on a car doesn't make you stupid, so long as you can afford the car. No reason Bill Gates or Warren Buffett should be puttering around in a Toyota Corolla. If someone has got the money, and they like exotic cars, then, by all means, they should buy one. Just because YOU can't afford one doesn't mean that other people shouldn't be able to enjoy them. Same thing goes for fine wine, art, mansions, etc...

Ok, he's complaining that he's getting second hand parts in a country that is known for doing that kind of thing?  Getting any car serviced in the knockoff capital of the world just asks for that kind of thing to happen.
