factoryconnection: Man, there's a bit of mark-up in the Chinese market on luxury! That car's around $130K stateside.
CruiserTwelve: That's what happens when you find a stranger in the alps.
p51d007: If you are dumb enough to drop 500k on a stupid car, then I guess you are dumb enoughto destroy it with a sledgehammer.
grinding_journalist: factoryconnection: Man, there's a bit of mark-up in the Chinese market on luxury! That car's around $130K stateside.I'm always irritated by car-centric atricles that completely misstate the value of the car for the purposes of making the story seem more sensational. Nowhere in the world will you have to pay $430,000 for a Quattroporte.I have no trouble believing that a few years old QP (which lose value faster than almost anything on the used car market), worth about $70,000 would sell for 430,000 Yuan. Since, you know, that's the approximate conversion.
Enemabag Jones: Buying an Italian supercar to be serviced in the United States is concerning enough. Buying one that would have to be serviced full-time in China, I just wouldn't./How about a lower-maintance high end Lexus or Nissan?

show me: Lich people's probrems.
SuperNinjaToad: seriously.. since when does IQ = $$$?
Enemabag Jones: MisterRonbo,Jews drive German cars, I guess raping dead relatives is still unacceptable in China.
I_Am_Weasel: Will it still do 185?
Cyberluddite: $430,000?!? You could but threeQuattroportes for $430K and have money left over!
Enemabag Jones: RangerTaylorHomey, you gots to be joking. The kinda person who buys a Maserati doesn't buy a Lexus or Nissan for the reliability. That would be like passing up the filet because the Big Mac is a better deal. Hell, overpaying is half the rush for these people. They love to buy a car that runs like crap, then biatch about the repair bills./Sells Land Rovers for a living. You are right, I am not swimming in money and throwing around money in China if you have it, is a thing to do. I don't really understand it.If I did have lots of money to throw around, I might get that car in Europe. In China with the corruption and suspecting they may not completely appreciate these high maintenance cars, it seems like a bad idea./Still why a Maserati when for about the same you could have a low-end Ferrari or rock solid higher end porsche.
duenor: Nothing new. The inuit in their potlatches would often intentionally destroy expensive items as a display of their wealth (that they could afford to do so). When you have lots of money, what you really crave is respect and admiration. There are plenty of people in china who have the former but lack either of the latter.
airsupport: There's an interesting slant to this whole story.
