I'm amused how Harrison Barnes was borderline useless at Chapel Hill despite all the hoopla surrounding him, yet he's now forming into a more than capable NBA player these playoffs.

That's what Roy does. He takes years off from recruiting.

He takes a lot of shots. He'll have a nice career playing for the Golden States and the Denver Nuggets of the world, getting 18 a game taking 20 shots.

The scuttlebutt 'round these parts is that Ol' Roy is a much better recruiter than coach, and the last few teams haven't been good enough to put it all together without input.

Considering at UNC he'd go through significant stretches where he played with the urgency and interest of a sloth on downers, I'd say that's a marked improvement.

I just barfed on my keyboard.  I watched the game with some college friends, and we all laughed our asses off when the game ended that way.  It was beautiful in its perfection.  After the nut shot, we all just sort of lost whatever rooting interest we had.

Eh, you're right.  Also, I think part of his performance last season can be written off to circumstances beyond his control, namely having to run point every possession when he seemed vastly superior as a two guard/occasional point.  I'm sure he feels worse about the Michigan game than anyone else.

Teenage boys who consider themselves "RABID FANS" and have time enough to spew hate about other teams during the work day are all in a tizzy, because someone who works harder than they'll ever work made a decision about what school he'll attend briefly.  The pattern is people who get angry about their disappointments and lash out at others are losers.

As someone who attended the University of Kentucky, allow me to make no apologies for the more vocal portion of our fanbase, while apologizing to anyone who has had to deal with them.

They are loud, uneducated, provincial, and feel an unnatural sense of entitlement towards a university that most of them did not attend. Most UK fans are not like that, but when you're dealing with a large group of people, there are going to be a generally larger number of shiatstains.

Congrats to Wiggins, I hope he enjoys his year in Lawrence. As college towns go, you can do a lot worse.

Exactly. If there was a point guard that Self felt comfortable with playing big minutes all year, it would have helped EJ a ton. He played out of position all year, and it showed, then I think he lost all confidence.

I also, for a long time, thought he was on the take at the end, but I've moved past that.

Actually, no. He's from Lexington, though. You will find many UK fans are not alum. It's a state brand.

Slightly disappointed as a UK fan, but no big whoop. It's not like the recruiting class for '14 isn't already an embarrassment of riches as it were. Frankly, though, I'm most interesting in seeing how the second year of the Willie Cauley-Stein project unfolds. Remember, he was a wide receiver his senior year in high school, and after a lackluster season was still considered a possible NBA draft pick. I see big things ahead for Willie Dynamite.

Wiggins will have fun trouncing a bunch of Big 12 jobbers for a season before getting eliminated in the tournament and getting drafted by, oh, let's say, the Orlando Magic. Best of luck to the kid.

There was an article in the LJ World towards the end of last season in which Elijah claimed that he had played point his entire life and was completely comfortable running an offense.  At first I was totally befuddled, but then I thought about all the times in my life where I was farking up at something and felt compelled to loudly affirm my competence as a defense mechanism/motivational tactic.

Bill isn't a fickle coach, and that's usually good.  But once he was wed to the idea of Elijah as a point guard, there was no getting him off of it.

He's also pretty loyal to his guys. He wasn't going to not play EJ, not after four years, even if that's what needed to happen. It's both good and bad.

as a Michigan alumnus, I was mildly annoyed that EJ was not tossed from that game, but, you know what happened. the refs did us a solid.

I couldn't help but feel a little sorry because Michigan should have lost, I generally like Kansas otherwise, and EJ was crying like a baby after... but then again, he punched McGary in the nuts.

/also wondered if he was paid to throw the game

Indeed.  It's just picking nits ultimately because Bill is an excellent coach and has achieved full community-love reception.  At any rate, I read that Wiggins picked KU primarily on how much he enjoyed his time with the other players.  That's exciting to me, as I feel like this team has a good chance of getting into a rhythm quickly.

it's all about how quickly they come together. I'm as excited for this team as I've been for a long time, they could be really special, especially about when you think about how Bill usually gets them better and better throughout the year. The big kid, Embiid, or whatever could really be something, if not this year, next.

Exactly.

I didn't really think that KU was going to land Wiggins, but I'm obviously glad he did.  They already had an amazing recruiting class coming in (second only to some team that was eliminated in the first round of the tournament, the NIT tourney that is, hear that EyeballKid?), and obviously adding a talent like this regardless if it's just for one year is a huge game changer.  Given what's been going on in the Bluegrass State, it'll be a fun season.

Hey, the team was unwatchable last year with few bright spots, I won't lie. But, UK fans will at least be able to say next season that their bench has won 17 games before.

More thrilled than being in the NIT, that's for sure.

Also, I love how you think somehow that the SEC is superior to the Big XII in basketball, which is in no way true.
