They both show more science programming than the "Science Channel".

I don't know that that was because of Fox News catering to science deniers.   Even FOX broadcast is not the first place you'd think an updated "Cosmos" would show up.... PBS, Science Channel, TLC, History,  even maybe SyFy before FOX.  Even among main networks, I think one might think of CBS or NBC as a home for it before FOX.   I guess most of those channels can't clear enough space from Ice Truckers and televised hillbillies to show something like this.

One is probably skeptical since the most recent examples of "science" programming on FOX have basically been things like "Did we really go to the moon?" and "Alien Autopsy".   Sagan's wife having full control sounds like we are safe though.

I'm sure a lot of it has to do with the fact that Seth MacFarlane is the major backer of this project.

Sagan's wife, McFarlane and Tyson all give me a good feeling about the show.

I wonder if it is going to be a "Weekly" series special in the fall or spring, or if they are going to try to "strip" it for a week during the summer or another "down" time for TV watching in general like between Christmas and New Years.   Either way I hope it does well, that they might do some sort of follow up or similar "smart" mini-series to a broader audience.  It will definitely be an interesting experiment as those types of shows rarely show up outside of PBS anymore.

Oooooh I never thought of him narrating anything though I do know he does a voice for a character on Regular Show. Still I'm totally excited for a remake of  Cosmos, there's so much that has been learned since Sagan passed on.

Seth MacFarlane is actually extremely passionate about science and knowledge. Pretty sure he wouldn't want to do a disservice to Sagan by making the show into something it isn't supposed to be (especially since he has his own shows to use as his own personal soapbox), but the problem lies more with Fox.... if it isn't edgy and pushing the limits, it'll be canned in no time.

He's a black guy who loves and works with "science", which are two things Internet-attuned white people love to jump on any chance they get. If he had his own line of bacon, the Internet would crown him king.

PBS -- Yeah
Science Channel -- While this will deal with how the universe may have been made, it will not feature the assembly line and the corporate public relations drone.
TLC -  They said Cosmos, not Cosmo.
History -  We're not "picking" the stardust from simple swamp folk to sell at a pawn shop.

Yeah! How dare people have heroes who stood for knowledge, advancing technology and trying to get everyone to act as a single people for the benefit of mankind, and then try to emulate them and encourage others to do so!

Truly, Neil deGrasse Tyson is one of history's greatest monsters.

Yeah, okay Neil deGrasse Tyson is black, but the thing about him isn't that he's black, it's that he's a fantastic communicator capable of dumbing it down. Mind you, if he was a woman, everyone would be talking about how she was a woman rather than how she would be a great communicator. Cue the XKCD about women and math:

Usual Fox viewers will still have their cosmology and Earth geo-history confused, as Fox decides to run the episodes out of order and pre-empt them randomly for football games.

And unfortunately this means that it will be chopped into convenient little 35 minutes of content with 25 minutes of commercials, copyrighted, trademarked and sold to the highest bidder instead of being filled with substantial scientific information and disseminated for the broadest possible public release.
