and that's different from the Islamic visions of hell? Or the Buddhist ones?  Or the Hindu ones, or the Zoarorastrian ones?  For as long as there has been a notion of an afterlife (which may even pre-date Homo Sapiens) there has more or less always been an idea of a hell to counterbalance the idea of heaven for precisely the reason of behavior modification and enforcing conformity with certain moral standards
