I dunno- part of me is in the "They KNEW what they were getting into..." camp and part of me thinks the owners are being gigantic dicks... Playing in the NFL can't really be compared to any other profession- it's unlike anything else. The number of people who play in the league is comparitively tiny to the rest of the working world and it makes SO much money- BILLIONS a year. Seems to me that shelling out $500,000 for Mr. Williams' knee is a drop in the bucket.

Verdict? Owners= dicks.

trailerpimp: But, the players know what they are getting into.  Don't play.

The NFL needs players more than players need the NFL.  The players can always take their business degree and get a job managing an Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

the NFL should take care of it's own and they all should get the health care they need after they quit playing.

A multi-billion dollar biz should be able to make this happen.
