"I was surprised today that they did not probe Secretary Clinton in detail," Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H., said, of the review board.

I bet she did, I bet she did.  *nudge* *nudge* *wink* *wink*.

Holy crap!  That's going to really cut into their ability to vote on repealing Obamacare!  And imagine how backed up their abortion bills will get!  I imagine it would also stymie their efforts to improve the employment situation in America...if they really gave a shiat about that.

"...such as whether U.S. military forces could have saved Americans had they dispatched F-16 jet fighters to the consulate, some 1,600 miles away from the nearest likely launching point."

Yeah, I'm still trying to figure this one out... What where the F-16's supposed to do, exactly? Were they just supposed to be so noisy that the attackers called the cops or went home? A-10's, those might be seen as a threat, Apaches, definitely, but if I were one of the terrorists, and they sent over F-16's, I'd just nudge the guy next to me and say "Hey look at those COOL jets!". Seriously, they weren't going to bomb the compound or anything, so how would they have "helped"?

I believe Panetta was the person quoted in the article articulating the same point--basically--we didn't know what was going on, so asking F-16's to go on a strafing run in a civilian area with partial (at best) intel would not be a good idea.

They're the new F-16X variant that is super long range (50,000 miles) and is equipped with super accurate jihad-seeking turbin-winder missiles that only detonate if they come within 3 inches of someone being all terroristy.  They totally would have saved the day.

I assume the F-16s were supposed to be armed with freedom-dropping bald eagles.  Once launched from the fighters, those eagles would have flown over the consulate and pooped all over the rioters. The crowd would have instantly apologized, brought our fallen Ambassador back to life, and replaced the Libyan government with a Christian democracy within 24 hours.

The cover-up is that those eagles were never loaded onto the fighters. The administration traded them for specially-trained buzzards, who will fly into the homes of law-abiding Americans and steal their guns.

district results here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California%27s_49th_congressional_distri c t

2012.. Presidential = 52% for Romney (not bad)
2010.. for Gov = 56% Whitman (remember her?, sweet gal, Corporatist) thank God she lost.
2008... Presidential = 53% McCain no surprise
2004....Presidential = 62% Bush 2nd term no surprise
they really seemed to like Schwarzenneger, all Ca. Conservatives did/do until you point out the bills he signed after they blame the (D)'s for ruining CA.
2000 Presidential = 52% Gore !!! holy cow!

It's weird, a lot of people perceive California to be quite Liberal however we find that once you leave the coast, you get into some serious Conservative Derptitude.
I voted against Issa last time i had the opportunity but he stayed in somehow, i will try again next time.

Au contraire.  I have faith the GOP can keep up the pace. Turn on Fox News or Beck or O'Reilly or Alex Jones.  They are nowhere near Peak Crazy.  Their Strategic Nutty Reserves are nowhere near being depleted.  When they start talking Contrails you know it's running thin and they are nowhere near that.

HotWingConspiracy: So what did Issa say when he was called a liar?

He mumbled something about how if this guy (who he;d seconds ago had been swearing had REFUSED to testify) had wanted to say something at the hearing then he should have contacted one of the panel's democrats so THEY could call him as a witness, :

Rep Issa: Now, Ambassador Pickering, his people and he refused to come before our committee that...
AMB. THOMAS PICKERING (Former Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs/Chair, Accountability Review Board on Benghazi): That is not true.
GREGORY: All right. We're-- we're going to get to Ambassador Pickering.
REP. ISSA: We have-- we have it in-- we have it in writing, we have White House correspondence. It may not have been the Ambassador's decision but it was the White House decision. That has been reversed. We're inviting him on Monday along with Admiral Mullen to come, to go through, with his papers, a private deposition so we can get the facts in a nonpartisan way.
GREGORY: Right.
REP. ISSA: We'll have Republicans and Democratic...
GREGORY: Well, all right. Ambassador Pickering, you-- you just jumped in here. You're willing to appear?
AMB. PICKERING: Of course. I've said the day before the hearings, I was willing to appear to come to the very hearings that he disclu-- he excluded me from. The White House told me back that he said...
REP. ISSA: One second. Please-- please don't tell me I excluded you.
AMB. PICKERING: Well, the-- the majority was-- we were told the majority said I was not welcomed at that hearing. I could come at some other time.
REP. ISSA: Well, as-- as the ambassador just said, the day before the hearing, if the White House said we'd like to have him, there's a procedure. He could have been the Democratic witness. And we would have allowed him. The Democrats requested no witness. The fact is, we don't want to have some sort of a stage show. We had fact witnesses. They testified. We have the Ambassador and-- and Admiral Mullen who conducted and oversaw the ARB. We're inviting them on Monday. We'll go through, not in front of the public but-- but in a nonpartisan way questions and answers and then obviously...

Why should he be surprised? There are a lot of tea party "non-profits" that clearly do not deserve tax-exempt status, as even a casual look at their activities would show.

Now, being as how Tea Partiers and the like tend to be not-very-bright, if I were looking for an easy bust, that's where I'd go looking for it. Politics not involved. Looking for dummies, however, IS involved.

2013-05-13 03:48:41 PM
I know we don't have a great amount of respect for the sovereignty of other nations, but wouldn't sending in fighters be overstepping just a bit?  We have a consulate there, not a military base.  I mean, can you imagine if another country tried to do the same if there was a protest or riot outside their consulate in the US?

2013-05-13 03:48:48 PM
If those jets had been sent to do low level intimidation passes on Benghazi, and one of the thousands of missing SAM rockets from Libyas fallen military bases was used against it, the Republicans would be in an uproar about how anyone could send in those jets in such a reckless manner.

WRT dropping the 4-6 SF guys in after Amb. Stevens was dead and the facility was already fallen, what they're asking for is a repeat of blackhawk down... they want to drop guys in with no substantial force, into an unknown, well-outnumbered situation, with no extract plan to speak of.

Frankly, the more the GOP talks about the military options available for Benghazi, the less comfortable I am with them making real world decisions about national security. These guys have been watching far too many movies, and their vast over-assessment about the effectiveness of small groups of skilled forces would lead to them just getting more of our servicemen and women killed.

Only problem that you and the Junior IRS guy may have overlooked is that the people behind the TEAtards are very smart (well, evil is a type of smart) and rich and they don't like people looking into their stuff.
