No, but the thread is vaguely to someone having had real sex, which by presumption geek-Farkers never enjoy, so viola!, here it is.

/don't worry...it didn't make any sense to me, either

Don't worry; if the appeal is legitimate, I'm sure the courts will have ways of shutting it down.

Article does not even represent the truth of what has happened.

The morning after pill contains the exact same active ingredient as normal birth control pills. Taking it soon after sex prevents a pregnancy from happening in the first place, just as normal birth control pills do. It just provides a larger amount of the active ingredient in birth control pills in a single dose. (doing it this way is still somewhat less effective than normal birth control pills)

The FDA conducted a scientific study and found that the morning after pill has no known serious side effects, so should be sold over the counter without age restrictions just like condoms are.

The Obama administration's political appointee over the agency acted like some kind of fundie asshat and overruled the agencies scientific findings and set an age limit of 17 on her own.

The judge found that there was no legal basis for that action and ordered it rescinded.

The political appointee decided that instead of following the judges orders, she would just change the age limit to 15, instead.

The judge once again ruled that the appointee did not have the power to overturn science.

So here we are now.

So, this pill should be sold to anybody (regardless of age) anytime they want it...but you need a prescription for acid reflux pills?

One side of that equation is out of balance

Well with prescription I pay $6.66 for a months supply of Protonix.  Without I would pay a hell of a lot more.

You still need a prescription for daily birth control, and you can get some of the PPIs in limited dose form over the counter.

And trust me, if you have GERD you need those PPIs daily. I know it when I am forced to miss one.

It's certainly not like its possible to have a life-threatening overdose of acid reflux pills, right?  Oh, you're not a medical doctor, nor have you examined the medical data on either drug?

Whoa, it's almost like the purpose of a drug doesn't necessarily indicate all effects of a drug, and medicine is a complicated science that requires substantial review to assess properly.

The people against abortion should be cheering for this pill.  Unfortunately, some idiot labled it the "abortion pill", even though it does NOT induce an abortion.  Despite being wrong, they are sticking to their opposition to the evil abortion pill.  Is anyone surprised by this?

Since when do you need a prescription for Pepcid, Zantac, or Prevacid? All of those are sold over the counter.

After decades of use, the active ingredient in plain old birth control pills has never shown any serious side effects. There is no more reason to require a prescription for it than there is for Motrin. (by the way, until a couple of decades ago, Motrin required a prescription too)

Look, at some point in the past couple decades the republican party collectively decided being factually wrong was no longer cause to disregard a position.  That principle is reflected in every single dimension of their platform now.  They're not always wrong, but they don't care if they are anymore, so they are a lot.

So why did the Democratic party overrule the FDA when it found that this drug was so harmless that it should be sold over the counter?

The Democratic party fighting for the right to restrict sales of this medication being the entire point of TFA and all?

Close.

After an egg is fertilized, pregnancy begins when the newly fertilized egg attaches itself to the uterine lining. The point of attachment is where the placenta will form.

Birth control pills (including the morning after pill) prevent that attachment, so you never become pregnant in the first place.

This is what birth control pills prevent happening.

It was timing. They didn't want to give the fundies that kind of ammo so close to the election.

We stand for a woman's right to control her own body unless doing so requires us to have a spine?

Unacceptable.

Not to mention all the going on and on about how it's the Republicans who are the stupid party for overriding science for political reasons.

Also, you're kind of ignoring the fact that they continued to refuse to follow a federal judge's order to implement the FDA decision even after the election was safely in the past.

However, they did manage to save the Bush tax cuts for the rich from finally expiring.

So while they aren't the least bit afraid to stand up for what the fundies and the rich want, they aren't the least bit afraid to kick their own base in the teeth.

Also, who could possibly have predicted this?  Oh, right.

Emposter (from 5/30/1013): The government is moving the morning-after pill over the counter but only those 15 and older can buy it -- an attempt to find middle ground just days before a court-imposed deadline to lift all age restrictions on the emergency contraceptive.

Federal Judge:  You are hereby ordered to do XYZ.
FDA: OK, lets just do X instead.
(Next week) Federal Judge:  Perhaps you didn't hear me clearly...

While I think the administration is retarded for doing this, allowing the morning-after pill for 15 and ups and completely restricting access to said pill are not the same thing. Democrats want the former, Republicans want the latter.

Both sides are bad, but Republicans are measurably worse. Don't fall for that same Fark Independent trap.

And 15 and up isn't the D position anyway.  It's the compromise between the D and R positions, because Obama can't decide to tie his farking shoes without making sure to appease the GOP, even at the expense of his base.  Most liberal president evar.

I'm not falling for anything on Fark. I've just been paying attention for three decades. They are all motivated by money and power, they just have different breads and circuses to trot out.
