SisterMaryElephant: Did they study the effects of simply having a uterus?  Simply having one tends to make one more liberal, less religious, and a touch more sane than most....

I don't think I met any single women that were for Romney during the campaign.

/Inb4 you never meet any single women anyway, Bane

Hobodeluxe: Lord_Baull: Slow Politics Tab day.

Hey I submitted some links but they got rejected. So It's not my fault.

I submitted an Atlantic story with the headline "Is Benghazi an obvious case of politicizing a tragedy yet?"

Probably deserved to be rejected. But ovulating women voting for someone who will likely never run for anything ever again is fun.

I had a hysterectomy in February. Should I be afraid of becoming a conservative fundamentalist loony?

depends, did they take your ovaries?  If so, I'd be careful.

Maybe the admins are filled with pent-up shame after greenlighting so many Benghazi threads? Whatever the reason, the comparative peace and quiet's kind of nice.

Yes it is. You just need to be more bootstrappy.

I heard that bad people were more likely to vote Obama. That's all I needed to know.

What about Ann Coulter?  Ohhhhh.... riiiiight.  Sorry.

Arkanaut: Parthenogenetic: Arkanaut: Gonz: If the woman in question has reached menopause, isn't ovulation kind of a non-factor?

I was also wondering if subby knew what "ovulation" or "menopause" meant, or if he's one of those people that tune out when women bring up their feminine hygiene.

It's possible.  Granted, it's unusual enough to warrant writing it up as a case report, but it can happen.

I just assumed submitter was taking a shot at the "Hillaryis44" segment of Democratic voters.

Let me just point out how weird it is for someone named "Parthenogenetic" to be commenting on ovulation.

Why?  Ovulation is still necessary for parthenogenetic reproduction.

They took all my baby-making bits, but left the fun bits. Shouldn't that make me more likely to remain a slutty lib? Or what can I do to avoid the alternative?

You are already a sluts.  Fun parts without the baby-making parts is an open invitation for farking everyone you want to (and some you don't).

Or in other words: GOP continuing to invent external factors for why they lost 2012 election.

Mart Laar's beard shaver: I had one female friend tell me she was voting for Obama simply because she had sex dreams about them.

That's the kind of concrete data-point everyone should use to exercise their franchise.

Anecdotal evidence reveals more about who you are friends with than anything else.  People vote for very asinine reasons such as believing the GOP will fix the economy, ban abortion, or that liberals can afford to pay for their campaign promises.

So the list of folks who prefer Obama:

younger voters
minorities
naturalized immigrants
urban whites
and now; menstruating women

I think this means he will win.

Considering that you're friends with this person, you likely have an equally stupid reason for your vote.

Last Man on Earth: Gonz: If the woman in question has reached menopause, isn't ovulation kind of a non-factor?

Also, I'd like to see the r-squared on the corrolation here.

It is, but consequently, this might not be taking Obama's age-appeal into account as a frustrating factor.  Since he consistently does better among the young than the old, post-menopausal women might be dragging the non-ovulation numbers away from him while leaving the ovulation numbers unchanged.

I thought this as well.  Let me preface the rest of my comment with my personal bias - I just don't believe what the study suggests.  That said, at face value I don't see any holes.  I don't know if the study is publicly available but they did link to it (and I have access).  The relevant portion you are looking for, that I also immediately thought of and looked for was here:

Participants were 275 women with a mean age of 27.95 years (SD = 6.05, range = 18-44 years) who had regular monthly menstrual cycles (25-35 days) and were not using hormonal contraception.

It chose a population where menopause was irrelevant and you can see the age range.

The confounding factor for all of this is that ovulating women in relationships were more conservative and tended to vote for Romney. Evidently, it's not ovulation that's the correlate, it's ovulation+relationship status.

I can't understand why ovulating women wouldn't vote for the GOP. I mean, any party that wants to force healthcare professionals to rape their patients with plastic wands in order to discourage them from making a medical decision...

I've always wondered where the training for this rape procedure would take place. In medical school? Residency? And of course you would have to technique variations in the technique. The women who come back for more abortions obviously must not have gotten the GOP's  message. So, no lube for you if you're a return customer, right?

Sybarite: I read a pretty thorough smack down of this study last year.

Thanks for the pointer. It's hard to believe that any published paper in this century would be able to get away with deciding not to control for the observed large differences in age and socioeconomic status between the two groups.

I'm glad I don't work in a field that requires reading Psychological Science. I think my head would explode.
