proteus_b: I find it humorous that people who weigh four to five hundred pounds will die and that people will blame a doctor for their demise.

Their weight issues don't preclude him from being held accountable for negligence or malpractice.

I have respect for Huckabee dropping over a hundred pounds by diet and exercise.

If you believe Huckabee lost over 100 pounds in 9 months just by diet and exercise, I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.

Guh. Lengthy screed is lengthy. What's this blogger's interest in the matter anyway?

It's not like the surgery is some sort of miracle. Of the three people I know who have gotten it:
1. Is now slightly less turgid, but still obese.
2. Lost a gross amount of weight (think deflated balloon) by following post-op instructions to the letter. One year later, started eating crap again. Gained back most of the weight.
3. Continued eating as before surgery, against medical advice. Still huge, but now with legendary stench added. Apparently, post-op guts don't like pasta.

Believe it or not, it is possible for some folks to lose a lot of weight just by eating less than 2000 cal/day for a while.
Kinda like the rest of us do, who don't weigh 500 lbs.

We have these things call "autopsies" and they can often do a damn good job of determining cause of death, and just because someone is fat doesn't mean a doctor can't fark up and kill someone quicker than if they didn't see that doctor.

To be fair, I'm quite certain Dr. Pepper probably played a small part in those situations.
