Please fill in the blank.

That's the one that came up when I googled them. Awesome stuff.

Seems like they had a huge influence on Gogol Bordello. Another band I discovered by accident while browsing Netflix one summer night.

He'd put in one of their dozens of great songs, but you clearly aren't cool enough to have heard of any of them.

/Heard of Pogues from The Wire.
//If nothing else, download The Body of an American, pretty good song of theirs.

"His girlfriend..."

There is no amount of farked-up, ugly, nasty, meanness that money or fame can't make a woman blind to.

The last time I saw you was down at the Greeks
There was whiskey on Sunday and tears on our cheeks
You sang me a song as pure as the breeze
Blowing up the road to glenaveigh
I sat for a while at the cross at finnoe
Where young lovers would meet when the flowers were in bloom
Heard the men coming home from the fair at shinrone
Their hearts in tipperary wherever they go
Take my hand, and dry your tears babe
Take my hand, forget your fears babe
There's no pain, there's no more sorrow
They're all gone, gone in the years babe
I sat for a while by the gap in the wall
Found a rusty tin can and an old hurley ball
Heard the cards being dealt, and the rosary called
And a fiddle playing sean dun na ngall
And the next time I see you we'll be down at the Greeks
There'll be whiskey on Sunday and tears on our cheeks
For it's stupid to laugh and it's useless to bawl
About a rusty tin can and an old hurley ball
So I walked as day was dawning
Where small birds sang and leaves were falling
Where we once watched the row boats landing
By the broad majestic shannon

You cannot call yourself a fan of music if you've not seen MacGowan throw up on stage.  I've seen the Popes/ Pogues 4 times.  He threw up at 3 of those shows.

Come rain or hail or wind or snow
I'm not going out to flanders oh
There's fighting in dublin to be done
Let your sergeants and your commanders go
Let englishmen fight english wars
It's nearly time they started oh
I saluted the sergeant a very good night
And there and then we parted oh

One of my favorite lines/stanzas, but probably a traditional song as alot of the Pogues work is.

Eight time Pogues attendee. He would tend to puke if he brought out a bottle of port to swig from.

Shane was the only guy to give the early '80s Iggy Pop a run for his money in the "perform while farked up" tourney. Shane would spit out a tooth, and Iggy would whip out his horse cock.

Good times.

You didn't come into the thread and post "who?" thinking you're all clever. You would likely have searched for them if you really cared.

In every Fark thread there is at least one person who thinks they are somehow cooler than everyone if they DON'T know about something that is not currently ridiculously popular and trendy.

I continue to stand by my opinion that Shane MacGowen is one of the finest poets since Yeats.  Seriously.  The more you look into what he's writing about and how he does it, the more impressive it gets.

He'll only be recognized as a genius after he's dead though, which is a feckin' shame.

Gahh even years ago when he was young, I always thought be looked unhygienic. And I'm not even talking about his horrorshow of a mouth. His face and his nails look dirty all the time.
Good thing he's a great songwriter, and I always liked the Pogues, but I'd hate to smell him.

Shane was born in Kent*.

Also The Pogues were formed in London and more than half of the original members were English.

*But he did grow up in Tipperary, which counts for three extra points on the ISO Irishness scale.
