wiredroach: Fissile: The last battles of WWII took place between the US and British Armies on one side, and their erstwhile allies, Tito and his communist partisans, on the other. The fighting took place around city of Trieste in May 1945.

Apparently you missed that whole atomic bomb business over in Japan in August.

hardly a battle.

I wouldn't call any element of the 3rd Army 'ragtag'
In any case this is not news - you can read far more about the incredible journey these Hitler's Hostages in n any one of several recent fine books  ecx.images-amazon.com

It's a trick question:  There has never been an upper-level GM product.

I know a lot of the participants in WW2 were baby-faced, wet-behind-the-ears kids but I'm sure some of those French VIPs must have been grownups. Must have been some rather feisty ladies to take up arms and participate in the gunplay. Need someone to play den mother to the above named cast.

Lando Lincoln: Many Americans don't like stories about how Axis soldiers were human beings.

My dad was very offended by Letters from Iwo Jima, because it "humanized the Japs."

I wonder what my grandfather would have thought of that.  He had a purple heart from his time on Iwo Jima.  The Japanese took a little girl, they guessed around 6 years old, strapped bombs and shrapnel to her then had her sneak into camp and run into the barracks where he and his unit were sleeping.  Killed a couple, seriously wounded many others.

Yep, they'll be sheltering the Von Trapp family in the castle.

Pearl Harbor showed us that it's important to have a love interest in the story.

and have the US look like the  winner, even if the film is about a Us defeat.
