That... was awesome.  Perfect way to go out, as a radio host on your last day.

My last official radio show was 24 hours long.  Midnight to midnight.  Yes, there was drinking involved.  People came by to give my booze and weed.  When I was done, I went to a bar and drank for free the rest of the night.

Lame. All they did was go to someone else. I was hoping to hear an actual wrestling match over the mic.

Sometime in 70, 71 I was a teenager living in Frankfurt, Germany. Used to go to bed listening to the Armed Forces Network. One night I fell asleep listening to a midnight rock show. As I entered slumberland I was surprised to hear antiwar songs and some dialog harshly critical of the war in VN. I was so tired though that I was almost in a dream state, and when I work up the next morning I wasn't sure if I had really heard that or dreamt it. You have to realize it was AFN after all. The mystery was cleared up in the Stars and Stripes or somewhere. It was the host's last gig, he was short something like one day. Although the higher ups were outraged, nothing could be done as he was already out and back in Montana (IIRC). Wonder who that was, anyone hear about that or know?

I find this strange, because the BBC was noted in the "early days" for having a tea cart loaded with champagne that they used to roll around from office to studio to office.  Was quite a civilized place back in the golden years.

If she was getting moved to a weekend show, that's a demotion already. Definitely cause to start drinking if you're a 20 year veteran with a prime time show.

You never know the backstory.  Some people get demoted because of a drinking problem, which then just gets worse.

Wizened old prudes don't like that I guess.  Though I will admit to not caring for her voice too too much.  Far too much squeaky and what not.
Still, farkin' whiners - shut up and have some Port.

Sounds like you could make a movie out of that. I dunno who you could cast...maybe Robin Williams?

Hmmm.   He would be good for it, but he's a little old to play a military guy these days.  It would have been a great role for him about 20 years ago, though.

Damn. Why can't you get drunk and do silly stuff sometimes? I mean, she wasn't driving her show anywhere. Nor was she operating heavy machinery or conducting life-saving surgery.

Didn't see anything about her being fired. They might've just told her to sleep it off and come in sober Saturday.
