They were called Buffalo over 100 years before they were called Bison. If you are going to insult others for being illiterate you might want to make certain you have read about the point you are trying to make.

This is like complaining about people calling insects bugs when there are multiple insects with bug as part of their name.

In fact, there is an entire class of insects that are the "true bugs."

I watched a tourist walk up to a bison, get within 20-30ft of it, then turn his back to the bison so that someone could take his picture.  The photographer had to inform the tourist that the bison was now charging him and he should run.

But they're all natural free range organic shade grown fair trade American Bison, so it's all cool.

I think a more relevant question is whether or not there was, in fact, a guy on that Buffalo...

They were called Buffalo because they were confused 100 years ago.

Its Bison, dammit.

This is why they should be called aurochs instead.  Clears the confusion when the competition for the name is extinct.

All bugs are insects. Not all insects are bugs.

I didn't say they called them that just 100 years ago, I said they called them Buffalo OVER 100 years BEFORE they were called Bison. As in they were called Buffalo at least as early as 1635 and they weren't called Bison until 1774.

You have waited nearly 4 centuries too long to complain about the name. Give it up.

Then they were confused from 1635 through 1774. Bison and buffalo are different species. Give it up.
